|Markrak||I used to have half doors on an old YJ. I was in an area back then where I paid a toll each day back and forth to work (no smart tags back then) and the zippered windows were a real pain for that. The constant jingling of the zippers at high speed drove me crazy as well. I currently have full doors on my 2000TJ and couldn't imagine going back to half doors. But everyone is different....|

|n00g7||Full doors or no doors for me. The rattles from the door surrounds are unbearable w/o full doors, and getting the safari top off/on is brutal, so I just take the doors off wor weekend cruising. Half doors look better though.|

I could have used some half doors today. Beautiful day off road in the Virginia Mountains.
But the full doors came in handy on the ride home as it got cool.

i have both. Much prefer the half doors. Nice fat armrest, looks better, and they have mirrors unlike going doorless. Only paid $300 for them and they were already red and came with brand new uppers.

Where did you get the half doors? I want to get a set and deciding between half doors like yours and tube doors.

Before and after half doors.. Like the half doors better. Full doors too confining. Better look with half doors. Painting black soon as weather warms up.
I have both zipper and slider uppers, and no leaks.

I'm happy you got your doors Rockthis. That's what I love about Jeeps, they're so versatile and easy to reconfigure for different situations and owner preferences.
I personally prefer half doors - I can't imagine myself riding on a trail in my Jeep with a full set of doors, I might as well just trail ride in my DD 4X4 truck and call it a day. I'm fortunate to be living in a tropical climate where it doesn't get below 60 degrees, and my half doors give me a sense of freedom with the uppers off in addition to the added benefits that others here mentioned - comfortable armrest and being able to lean out while navigating through tight terrain. My son rarely has to get out to spot for me, he can just lean out too.
Jeeps have evolved a lot over the years, but what matters most is we all agree that they're a pure thoroughbred off road, and owning one is a total delight no matter how it's tailored to please each owners taste. It's a Jeep thing, and that's why I always throw a wave when I see another one driving by the other way

|Rockthis1||I finally got my full doors lastnight! && I love them, they're awesome! I prefer them over the half doors. But that's just me... I've also decided to keep the half doors for the summer. My new doors are black on a red jeep, overall I'm satisfied! && I only paid 500 for them! Going to get them painted tues! then tint!|

|hamr26||I have both and like each one for different times of the year just as others have stated. Half doors on now until October.|

|Gary2||which is better depends on what time of the year I am asked living here in Jersey . When its winter and the Jeep spends more time closed up so I prefer real glass to see through , hard top and full doors. When it gets warmer its top and switching doors back and forth . Once its summer it soft top or safari top with half doors . Window are only for when rain may be in the area. Bbeing garage kept makes it a little easier and the fact its not my DD.|

I love my half doors. They are not even factory, Bestop Element half doors. So much better visibility for peeking out to see where your front tire is while wheeling. If I could only choose just one set, I would go with the half doors due to my Jeep not being a daily driver. If it were, I would choose full doors.....Maybe.
Looks wise, half doors with the top down all the way, IMO.

|DJs97TJs||I have half doors. Can't complain other than the fact they do leak a bit. I think they look good on or off. But if I had bought my tj new in 1997, I definitely would have opted for full doors, for security and the fact when I'm drive 75 down the interstate, I wouldn't have to worry that they try to bend out. But here's a pic of mine with half doors (doesn't look bad IMO)|

|Rubi513||If the funds allow do both. I use my half doors more than my full doors because when I take my top off I leave the doors on. Half doors with no top looks better to me, and plus you have a place to rest your left arm. The only time I use my full doors is in the winter time.|

|DrewG||I have full hard doors and full soft doors. The hard doors are real nice in the winter, and being a smoker, it's convenient just rolling the window down a little. That being said, once warmer weather hits the full hard doors go in the closet and out come the soft doors. If I could only choose 1 set, I guess it'd be hard doors, but the soft doors come up on craigslist every now and then for a decent price...so then I'd have both.|

(Note, I vote for addig a simple switch instead of having to undo the glovebox and pull/insert the fuse. My switch is right on the side of the dash.)
|05-23-2013 06:52 AM|
I have a 97. To turn on the dome light on mine is to turn the headlight switch counter clockwise (like brightening the dash lights). There is a stop so to speak at bright then a little further turns on the dome.
Also after you pull #4 you can tap the fuse ports with fuse taps attach an inline fuse holder and a switch in a convenient location. Then you can turn on and off the dome switches at will.
