sevenservices yup... calipers most of the time.

If you crack open the bleeder screw and the brakes release, then its a pinched line.

But, most likely you can crack open the bleeder and the caliper will just sit there... locked up. I've replaced mine twice because of mud bogging. Even pulled 'em apart once and expanded the boots to clean them really good and they still frikin locked up so I replaced 'em a second time. Thats part of the reason why I don't go into mud bogs anymore... Some mud, heck yeah, but the mud with little tiny rocks in it, no way...

peety I would lean towards a collapsed brake flex line, the brake fluid can be pushed into the caliper under assist, but the collapsed line will not let it return to the master cylinder. As you drive the heat from the brakes causes the fluid to expand and will apply the brakes even more. You may not see any external signs of damage either ! I would start there, they are a lot cheaper than calipers and given the age they should be replaced anyway.

Whotheguy I agree with AllMudd, you have slides that are hanging up. I personally have never experience a brake line problem, other than being ripped out, that problem is obvious. Spend a couple hours on the weekend and pull the calipers, get some local parts-store caliper slide/bolt kits and install. Remember, speed gets you there, brakes get you home. Hang tough!!

AllMudd Sounds like the caliper slides are not sliding like they are supposed to or, the caliper piston is not releasing when you let off the brakes. Check your steel and also braided lines for signs of wear or damage. A bad line will also cause this to happen.

Brakes on fire

Ive noticed that when I drive my jeep on a longer drive maybe 25-30 miles on roads with stoplights that after a while one of my front wheels brakes will drag terribly. An interstate drive is fine, as long as I dont use the brakes heavily or very much. Its only the front wheels and is only one at a time. Any idea what this is all about?
