live_slow I wish i could record the sound and play it back.

It sounds like two things that don't weigh much tapping each other.

You can't hear it a low speed, but you can hear it at about 15 MPH up until the wind noise or tire noise kicks in.

I still have the stock wheels and tires so going back to them will narrow it down.

I may do that. Time is the problem. So I'll have to get around to it. Or get some power tools.

live_slow Bump.

I'm out of ideas here, and it's probably going back to the dealer once I can take a day off work.

It's a faint click, but I can't spin the wheel fast enough to hear it when the wheel is in the air.

That got me thinking it's not the wheel weights tapping the brake assembly due to the tight fit of the 15" wheels. IF it were, those little soft weights would be knocked off, I think.

Today, I coasted by a wall to pick up the noise.

It is in tempo with the forward speed of the Jeep, as in as I slow down, the time between ticks increases.

Now, probably because of the sound bouncing off the wall, I'm wondering if the noise is coming from another spot.

I'll get under it again this weekend.

I'll probably just take it to the dealer and have the noise documented. It's not loud, but it's pissing me off. I am running out of ideas for things to check on my own.

Just did that. Good idea but can't seem to get it going fast enough to hear the tick.

It isn't a big problem, but I do need to track it down.

I didn't pull the wheel tonight. Too late to get after it.

whetstone Before you pull the wheel off, jack it up and spin it to see if you can reproduce the sound?

live_slow No rocks. I checked again today when I was out putting the top back up (for rain).

I think I'll pull the driver's rear tonight and inspect the weights.

IF it is that, I'll just stop off and have them do an edge weight on the inside, although I'm not a fan of those myself.

JKASS I would closely inspect those weights on the inner rim. 15" are notoriously tight on the jk calipers. Maybe paint them and then look for signs of scratching.

stupid question: driver's side rear wheel, tick/click/tap

JK 23R Picked up Friday
Threw on "the combo" (15" BlackRocks 33" Duratracs)
Left some stickers, tape glue on the wheels, had a lot of click clack. That's all worn off now.

Problem: faint ticking/clicking sound coming from driver's side rear wheel

(I didn't hear it with stock wheels, but had top on when they were on because it was raining.)

Possible cause #1: I remember reading that the e-brake on the JK is either good and trouble free or hosed up beyond all regonition. Some have had new Jeeps or 10-30K Jeeps where the ebrake just fails and little bits go ticking around.

Possible cause #2: There is a second row of wheel weights (sticky kind not clamp on wheel edge kind), and it doesn't look like it's possible but it may be possible that the leading edge of the first weight is tapping the caliper assembly as the wheel rotates. I can't see any evidence of that, and if that's it, you'd figure that weight would be shaved down by now.

Question: What else could I check? (Checked torque on everything)

I ran my hand along all the tires looking for any thing in the tread (the sound is similar to a rock in the tread) and feeling for any sticky spots left from the tape and stickers.

It may be nothing or something that goes away. I just want to figure it out. Going back to dealer is a last resort (I just don't have time until late next week).

Thanks in advance. I read through all the other threads on the topic here and elsewhere. Just looking for fresh ideas to check.
