WatchThis! Honestly I don't see how anyone could make one to where you could grease it (unless you used a neddle fitting) that would work with a set or RCVs on a JK. So the folks running them are probably stuck to only greasing them every great now and again. Well or they could do like me and have to pull the front axles out every 6 months or so giving them easy acess to the lower ball joints.

I was thinking the same thing. If this project gets that far along, I will suggest to them that we get several sets out in members hands for testing.
Maybe a couple DDs and a couple of hardcore offroaders or members who run big tires, etc.

The same tech said the Moog part numbers I asked about fit various Dana axles in other Jeep Chrysler products. The whole takeaway from the conversation was "remove the zerk and it will fit, otherwise we aren't concerned enough to make an exact fit BJ".

Potential Ball Joint Now In Development

First off, I am not affiliated in any way with the company I'm about to talk about. Second, let's not turn this into an American versus foreign made flame fest. Just sharing potential good news. Third, if I get long winded I apologize, its just the way I am.

I installed Synergy ball joints on my 2011 and they were definitely an improvement over stock. But besides Dynatrac, I was curious if any other companies produced a quality affordable American made ball joint. Dynatracs have good reviews but are pricey.

A few months back I started to do a bit of research. Turns out that Moog makes both uppers and lowers in the USA. One problem with the Moogs, the grease zerk on the lower joint is vertical so the axle would break it off as soon as it started to turn.

I called Moog and talked to one of their techs. The response I got was less than enthusiastic. Basically Moog was aware of the axle/grease zerk interference. Moog had thought about putting the zerk at an angle but were concerned about a loss of strength to the ball joint integrity by having the zerk on the edge. Their suggestion was to grease the joint upon installing the ball joint and then remove the zerk and install a plug.

So what happens later on when I want to grease the lower? "Remove the plug and put a zerk with a 90 degree bend in its place, grease the joint, and then remove and reinstall plug". Ummm...."You realize there is only about 1/4" of space between the axle and the joint, right"?

I came across a company in California, named Rare Parts. They stock Moog suspension parts. They also make suspension parts in house for vehicle applications when there are no aftermarket replacements. After searching their catalog I discovered they make ball joints for the Hummer H3, but not a Wrangler? Seriously?

So I shot off an email and surprisingly got a reply from the company president. After exchanging a few more emails, I got him to realize there are many more Wranglers on the road than H3s. Also, aside from the expensive Dynatracs, only one other company (Moog) makes a ball joint here and explained the issue with using it.

I also challenged him to step up and offer durable and affordable US made ball joints for the JKs. Danny said he would look into it. I didn't hear from him for 3 months so I figured he was just blowing smoke. Lo and behold I got an email from him today. Claims he hasn't forgotten us.

Hi Scott,

Itís been a while and I just wanted to give you an update.

We did decide to move forward with the Jeep ball joint project. For the last 3 months we have been designing and cycle testing ball joints. Last month we bought a Jeep Wrangler to test fit and put our parts through real life testing. We are currently running our new design and over the next few months we will evaluate how the parts hold up and perform.

Feel free to post the progress if you want. I will be in touch the closer we get to production. I might even send you a set to run on your jeep and ask for your feedback as far as the installation goes.
