The beauty of having a parts catalog is just what happened here. I have had that plate down, sanded it up and coated it with POR before I put it back up on the jeep. When I saw it in the parts catalog and then looked at your plate I focused in on the fact that yours was flat and that wasn't what I remembered about mine. You got me to focus in on the plate when you posted the picture of the rubber block with the two bolt holes that didn't line up with anything. When I looked at the plate I realized that there was something different with yours and upon further inspection I realized the difference was the missing surface which the rubber block bolts to.
If you get one from the junkyard be sure to grab the hardware that holds it up there. Bolts and such.

|Southpaw1||Man you have been a ton of help... i looked back at my mounting bracket and found where the po cut the bracket at that 45 degree angle that you just mentioned. Now i'm curious why he would have done that. Now its off to the salvage yard to find a replacement.|

|jk'n||Hold on cowboy!......lets back up a step. I'm looking at the picture of the plate that you are showing mounted to the transmission and it doesn't look like the one in the parts diagram of the PDF that I linked for you. Could it be possible that the mounting plate is from the new transmission? Look at the picture of the mounting plate in the PDF parts breakout diagram. The one in the picture above shows one surface....flat. The one in the parts diagram shows a flat surface where it bolts to the transmission and then a 45 degree angle and then another flat surface where the shock mount bolts to. Those two plates are not the same meaning that you may have to try and get that part either new or from another jeep same year as yours.|

|jk'n||Have you tried matching that same mount to your old transmission? I'm wondering if the old transmission holes are in the same place. Reason being that there is no guarantee that the part that you got with the rubber mount is the same as the stock part. Have you verified this?|

So...I tried mounting the transmission mount...as you can see it doesn't match up.
After more research it looks like the 2001 transmission mount is a four bolt pattern not the two bolt that came with the original 1994 transmission.
Just by looking at it I believe that the 01 Transmission mount will fit my Transmission.
My question is now....what do I do if it does not match up with the mounting holes on the skid plate? What are my options?

Here is an example of one of the DVDs available on the site that I got mine. The one I got for my 2008 covers all the way from 87 to 2013. Look around the site for a more recent one than the one in the link.

|jk'n||BTW, the mopar parts diagram came off of a DVD that covers all models from YJ through JK 2013. It was a chunk of change to purchase the catalog, but as you can see, a very useful tool whilst working on the jeep. Even if it is to just look at how something bolts together. The part numbers are great also as this allows you to search for the exact part.|

|jk'n||All AX15 transmissions should have the mounting holes in the same place on the bottom. Item 14 bolts up to the transmission. Item 15 is a large chunk of rubber with two screws which provides the shock mount for the transmission/engine. The part below item 15 is the skid plate itself. If the skid plate is still in its original mounting position, all of those pieces should bolt right in. My AX5 from the 2000, bolted right up to my 92 without any modifications. All AX15s should have the same mounting bolt positions on the bottom.|

Thank you for taking the time to research this. I think this will help me tremendously. My next question is this...Will the 2001 AX-15 Transmission line up the same way that the original transmission did? If I drop my skid plate and the Transmission mount (item 14 and 15 on your diagram) does not line up in the same spot...what would be my options?

I just spent time going through my mopar parts catalog for the 94 and I think I found the parts for the place where you are talking about under the transmission. The evidence that this is the right part is the exhaust loop that hangs off to the side of the bracket. This is what is suppose to support the transmission and by way of the transmission the engine as well. It shows all of the Mopar part numbers also.

|sinepome||I'm not 100% on this bit I think that's the "torque stabalizer" or something like that. The trans mount is a rectangle rubber block that mounts at 2 holes under the skid. If I recall correctly the ax15 and 5 use the same mount and skid. One is just mounted further back than the other. GL and I hope I'm not totally wrong on this.|

Sorry it took so long to post these pictures.
The first two show the transmission sitting on the skid plate...No clearance, metal on metal.
What I attempted to do was make my own transmission mount.
But this is what happened after just a little bit of driving.
I would like to go buy the appropriate transmission mount but not sure which to get. The Jeep is a 94 but the PO replaced the tranny. He said its an AX15 out of a 01 Jeep. Its a different size from the original transmission. Also...I don't think I see a mounting bracket. Does anyone have pictures of their transmission mounts/ or locations of the mount...
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have bushings for my skid plat and for the transmission mount. The bushings drop the skid plate down a Tad and the tranny mount raises the tranny up. I'm trying to picture your setup. Like the previous post get you a mount. It will create the clearance u need. But yes bushings will be part of the solution because mine was a kit
. I dnt have an ax 15 though. Good luck.

|Southpaw1||I will try to get pictures up this afternoon... there was not a transmission mount in between the tranny and the skid plate. I put a makeshift transmission mount in there (using a 2 in. rubber grommet) and was able to get the front drive shaft to clear the skid plate. All appears to function properly....does anyone know how big the transmission mount should be? Does anyone foresee any issues with the way I fixed it?|

|jk'n||It would help to see a picture. If the front drive shaft is rubbing on the skid plate it could be because of the 4" lift. Some folks drop the skid plate by using spacers to allow both the front and rear drive shaft angle to be lower.|

My "new to me" jeep is a 94 yj. Straight six with 4" lift sitting on 35s.. the po states he replaced the transmission with an ax-15 transmission out of an 01. The rest of the drivetrain is original. My understanding is that the newer transmission is larger in size... the problem i have is this...the transmission is sitting directly on the skid plate and the front drive shaft is touching the skid plate.... does anyone know if it would be ok to put a rubber bushing in between the skid plate and the transmission? Thanks in advance for any input.
