LVRaptor not too far but not too close either lol is eagle valley just outside of caliente great camp grounds and perfect for the wife/kids as they have showers and bathrooms, and on the bit more primitive side you can go a little farther to beaver nevada which is one of my favorite camping/fishing spots. Both are well worth the drive.

County98 Thanks for the replies fellas! I'll check 'em out when I get home for sure. Bummer there isnt a nice lake hidden up there somewhere, lol. Is that all National forest up there so, camp wherever you want? Or state park, where you're locked in?

I still get really confused on the usage stuff. National Park/State Park/National Forest/BLM/etc.

Was shocked when I realized I couldnt go to Yosemite and just go camp anywhere I wanted with my dogs. Kind of defeats the purpose of National Parks in my mind at least.

Thanks again!

RepairMan There is fishing and camping at echo canyon state park, but it's a little bit of a trip to get there. There are also several other state parks in that area that have water and may have fishing. Nevada State Parks | Nevada State Parks

raythom3 I was a little stumped on this one. Other than Lake Mead and then the Colorado River south of Hoover, I would have to say that the nearest place for some good camping and fishing is either Big Bear or up in Southern Utah.

gregaf3 about the only fishing that I know about is the little pond up in Cold Creek. It is nothing worth talking about though.

Camping this year is going to be rough if you want established sites. This year is going to be a huge construction year up on the mountain and only two campgrounds will be left open. Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest - Offices

It is so bad that the ski resort is going to be letting people camp in their parking lot... for a fee of course.

If you like primitive camping, a little harder to convince the wife. You have some good options that are still up at enough altitude to beat the heat. Macks canyon group camp ground, Wheelers Pass camp ground, and of course all of the smaller places right off of the many trails. I will probably get shot for this, but check out Carpenters Canyon. There is enough room for a few tents at the end of the trail and there is a small creek. Nothing big enough for fish or anything though.

Camping AND fishing around Mt Charleston?

Hi guys. I'm sitting in a PAX terminal in Afghanistan right now trying to finally come home, lol. I'm just sitting here day dreaming about doing all the mods to my Jeep that the wife has been piling up in boxes and was wondering where some good fishing spots are?

I like to camp and fish up in the trees, so I was thinking Mt Charleston area, but I've never seen any water around up there? I dislike Lake Mead since there's no shade or scenery.

Are there any camping AND fishing spots on some little trail around Mt Charleston? Any pics?

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get in on one of your wheeling trips soon.
