2 dr has straps. I also connected to the side. It makes it work better for a duster too

Nuke83 Not sure if it's as effective as the pipe fix, but I purchased some of the "industrial Velcro" from Home Depot and attached a short strip of the "hook" side to the top of the mounting bracket on each side. I use the Velcro already attached to the cover and simply mate it with the installed strip. It holds it down and stops all flapping. No need to have another bar around or remove the factory bar. I'll note that I have the newer version of top that has the clips on each end to hold the factory bar from sliding back and forth (I don't believe this existed in the first generation TrekTop NX).

I agree that this was really bad before doing this and I don't even notice it now. Can't give direct comparison to the pipe fix, but Velcro's definitely good enough for me.

yes. I don't take the pipe out once I put the Trektop on for the summer.

dspud This mod works great. Its one of those things that just fixes a problem. I forget that the pipe is in there. I cannot figure out why Bestop has not fixed this problem. Without this mod, I would have probably sent this top back by now.

bhoch I will be doing this today. my top sounds like a helicopter going down the road with the flapping that happens. Cheap and easy mod and I was trying to figure out how to resolve. Cool!

GunToter FINALY I found this thread!

Sorry to bring it back to life, but I'm just so happy to have finaly found it!! I put my Trektop on my 2 door the other weekend, today I took the windows out for the first time and about went crazy with all the flapping. Folks mentioned this thread in another one and I had one heck of a time finding it (do you have any idea how many Trektop threads there are?!)

Anyway, thanks for the idea, stoping by Lowe's after jury duty (I cant say that without thinking of Polly Shore....then thinking about scuicide) tomorrow. Then I'll just have to play around with the lousy center J hook things and see if I can get something to tighten that area up.

bearman95 no flapping with 4 windows down. I dont use the flip back top. I usually just take the back and side window off or have the full trecktop but i do ride every morning with all four windows down while it still cool outside and have not noticed any flapping.

Yeah my main flappage occurs in the back section over the rear seats. I need to figure out a way to fab up some circular retainers for the pipe instead of the J hooks that Bestop provides, or something.

I even have the pipe already, just no way to attach it without totally ghetto rigging it.

You guys both have 4 doors?

And this is with the glass windows down (all 4 of them)?

How about with the sunrider flipped back?

I have even tried the second set of spring holes and it doesn't seem to help. Granted this is mostly in windy conditions like around the coast, but mine definitely flaps at anything over 55MPH. And the thing is so simple I can't imagine that it's installed incorrectly.

Mine too. And while the bar itself does not move or vibrate, the top flaps like all hell in bikini mode on the highway if I have the windows down. Even worse with sunrider flipped back.

It flaps so much so that I can see the rear "bow" flattening out over and over again as the Flappytop NX pushes it down. It's rather annoying. I'd love to figure out how to make this mod (or something like it) work on a 4 door and look clean (i.e. no ratchet straps or bungees or crap like that).

rics1997 Yea, it only works on the 2dr Trektop NX. The 4dr NX doesn't have the sleeve for the bar

I believe there is something different going on there, my guess is the bar is secured different to the sport bar than on the 4dr version. Mine is in there super tight with no wobble/flapping, not even sure if I can remove it hah!

real4x4 I cut the bottom part of J hooks off mine altogether and used a wracheted tie-down camo strap from the TrekTop-installed top part of that strap to one of the Jeep hooks on the floor in the back. Holds it really nice and tight.
06-17-2012 11:42 PM
lee indy I use zip ties threw the.holes

THUDDOME Great call, I got mine at True Value for $15 also, all they had was black which was great. I also took a wrap of the strap around the end of the pipe and moved the J-Hook to the side. Any good ideas for the hooks in the sound bar holes? What a terrible design, in any kind of side wind mine rattles around. Oh and I wanted to mention (To replace your hard top bolts with hand bolts) I bought star handled Thule bolts for my hard top. They are for Thule rook racks, paid like $2 each for them (standard hardtop retainers are M8). They are a little long, I stuck a couple of nuts on them and now I have a place for bungee tie-off.

rics1997 I drove all day today with the Sunrider open. This mod is awesome. No vibrating at all. I did however remember to close the Sunrider before going into the Store with my daughter. not sure why I did other then thinking that dark cloud was getting close. While in the store a huge storm hit. Have to say I did get a little wet. The rain was too hard for my duster to hold and some water made it in through the back at the seats. I need to find something to keep it higher in the back them it is now. Something that will bow out a little
