Southeastern Appalachian Expedition 2013 SOLAROS

The Southern Land Rover Society's annual camping/off-road event/charity auction will be held September 13-15 at Windrock OHV Park & Campground just NW of Knoxville. The cost for 2 attendees is about $125 including 2 nights primitive camping, dinner Saturday night, T-shirt and map and SOLAROS annual membership. We went last year and had a great time. Other makes besides LR welcome of course. A few pictures attached from the 2012 SAE attached. Registration can be found at the link below.

Birmingham Cahaba WMA Trail Report

Went last Sunday afternoon. Trail looks good and the access gates were open. Please don't litter and stay on the trails to prevent erosion and damage to the vegetation.

Hey man! I was just there last Saturday Sept 1st!! It rained alllll day. Got a chance to try out my new Hankook Dynapro MT's. They exceeded my expectations! Two TJ's got stuck but I trucked right on by. The park workers had to pull them out with a bull dozer as I don't have any tow gear. Otherwise I would have pulled them out myself.

I'll definately be there again sometime in October and November during the Octoberfest time. Let me know when you go again!

Lineville AL Heritage Festival 11/05/12

This is a great festival on the east side of Mount Cheaha on November 5. They have a small music stage and you can walk a 4-block area and visits shops. We sat down for lunch with the mayor at the Fire Department fundraiser BBQ. You can mix some light gravel road touring in if you approach from Talladega via Skline Drive and then cut down to Lineville by taking a right where the pavement up to Mt. Cheaha starts.

And the pictures are of Nubbin Creek Trail same day just North of Mt. Cheaha. Nice easy hike with some water falls at 0.75 mile and another at 1.0 mile.

Cullman County Oktoberfest & Stone Lonesome OHV Park

If you want to make a weekend out of it or just a day trip check out the Cullman County Octoberfest and visit Stoney Lonesome for a few hours also! We went to the opening ceremony last year on a Sunday at 1:30 and were on the trail at Stoney Lonesome by 3:30. Opening ceremony this year is Sunday October 7 at 1:30 PM and the festival runs from 10/06/12 to 10/13/12. Pictures below are of the selection of the Oktoberfest Queen (decided by which young lady gets the cupcake with the ring in it) and dancing.

Stoney Lonesome Base Camp

From the Jeep trail section overloooking Stoney Lonesome Base Camp today in the distance. The rhinos go to their watering hole about 2:00 so the trails open up for the Jeeps late in the afternoon. I saw you big dark beautiful Wranglers heading West past Dodge City today at 3:30!

Saltriverfolk We'll be at Stoney Lonesome today around noon. The newly graded and banked trail 411/411b/412 entrance near landing zone 12 all the way at the back of the park is the one to do - as long as you have good tire tread! If it is your first time at Stoney Lonesome, set aside 20 minutes to fill out the paperwork and watch the safety video. Cost is $10+$5 per person and there will be plenty of folks riding today. You can download a couple of the forms ahead of time. A little less crowded on Sundays about 3. Mau be a little rain coming in late afternoon. http://stonylonesomeohv.us/

HELENKELLERMRI I live in the Shoals area. I've never been to Hawk Pride, trying to talk some fellow jeepers into going. The vids look extreme. I'm not interested in tearing something up since my jeep is a daily driver.
