tjike California was great. I had a blast goin wheeling out there. I wish I could have done more but my schedule was not the best. I am just glad I had the opportunity to a least go out one time. Big Thanks to DaK for inviting me out and showing me the CA desert and also to jeeperdave49 for helping me out when the desert did minor damage. If I do end up moving out that way or happen to be in the area, I will definitely let y'all know.
Thanks again

DaK That most likely is. Have told him that many times.... That guy can wheel pretty good too. Could probably do Holcomb with no problems in that rig. Am thinking this fall he has to go to Bull Frog for some motivation to lift.

OBTW, 37's going on this week. OH YEAH!

josea1952 Nice pics guys, is that the COD jeep thats going home when I'm headed to work? It would look great on some 35's.......

jeeperdave49 Tjike, If you can wait until next week I should have time to help you, If not try Roberts Automotive in old town, 823-8200. Not fancy but he is pretty good mechanic. Also I would trust Protech 822-1100. Pm me. Dave
07-03-2013 06:16 AM
DaK PM Dave Simmons. He posted earlier in this thread. If nothing else he may help you do it. Nearest reliable Jeep mechanic I know is Rosamond. Good mechanic but he takes his time so you won't have your jeep back that day.

OBTW, uploading to photobucket. 13 meg pics and 4 min video take a LOT of time.
07-02-2013 10:53 PM
tjike DaK although I had an awesome time on that run. I can't say the same for my jeep. Turns out my passenger cv joint is goin out. Had a few loud pops today while driving.
Can someone tell me where a good shop is to get this fixed at here in Tehachapi? I have no tools to do it myself.
07-02-2013 05:03 PM
DaK Ok thanks. Will load them on my account tonight and post up some pics with links. Not any action shots, just scenic pics of the canyons. We do have a good video of 462 Nascarin through Goler Gulch, Ricky Rudd would be proud. (No digs on that name please, just one that popped into the cranium. I am not now, nor will I ever be a nascar fan/viewer)

jeff_in_rc Hey DAK it calls the page private, can't see the pics either.

Let us see if that one works.

tjike DaK I had a great time on that run.
I dont know if its me or what, but I can't open that link.
07-01-2013 06:15 PM
DaK Here ya be. Keep in while viewing that the person taking the pics has never been here before, never been wheeling before blah, blah... SO, with that said you will see a lot of touristy pics along with a tad bit of rock crawling.

DaK Great run yesterday, albiet HOT HOT HOT... think TJike announced at one point it was 119 in one of the canyons. We took ike and some Texan on a whirlwind tour of Red Rock Canyon through the El Paso Mountains. This of course confused the Texan but then again having hills confused him. Ike did awesome on his first desert, rock infested run. Quite different than his Western Washington topography for sure. At one point we stopped along some unnamed rigde where the Angeles, Piutes, El Paso and the beginning of the Sierra mountains could all be seen at once. I duly informed Ike that this was due to not having those nasty TREES blocking the view.

Along the way history lessons were given and landmarks pointed out. For some of ust this trail was old hat but always good to take new people along and show them our desert.

At the end of the run one indvidual contacted his spouse to inform her that he was safe, off the trail, airing up and should be home shortly. Welp... he made the mistake earlier of informing her that we should be off the trail by 2 PM. Ummmm, yeah...Unbeknownst to him plans were made during his absence and he was now LATE. This of course is all his fault despite the fact he didn't know about said plans and no text or phone call was made to inform said male about said plans. It was going to be a "surprise". Now, so ya all know me and this individual have a tendency to SQUIRREL while out on the trail. My spouse knows that when 462 and I go out that deadlines are goals and nothing more as we have yet to meet one of those for being off the trail or or for that matter, home. As I often say, "If you have plans then you don't go JEEPIN!" As you never know what is going to happen. So I finally get back to the house and my bride goes, "2:30 huh?" And I go, "I was with 462..." I was cut off by my lovely as she stated, "OH, DIDN'T know HE was going be there! Had I known that I would have known that 2:30 was never going to happen." I had nothing. Yep, she is just plain AWESOME. I did post her our spot locations throughout the trip so at least she knew we were "safe". My last message was a tad past 2:30, just a tad... say two hrs tad but a tad just the same. So bottom line... we won't be seeing 462 out for awhile and I need to ensure my lovely that when 462 is going, she is informed.

Okay a little off track there but in the end great day out despite the heat.

TJike, welcome to SOCAL jeeping. Nothing like it any where. Next stop, Big Bear for wheeling at 7k.

DaK

DaK If you are free Saturday we are doing some desert wheeling out in Red Rock. Be going through Goler Gulch to see some old mines and cabins. Will then be going to the Burro Schmidt tunnel, Bickel Camp,Borax Mines then through Last chance Canyon. It will be hot so bring lots of water and food.

Let us know if ya want to go. You will be have to be here between 8-8:30 Jawbone Station

Also TOP OFF in Mojave. You will have to make a dog led through there, not far out of the way. There is gas at the Jawbone store but it will cost ya more, or bring extra gas. If we have the time and gas we could make a run up to McIver's cabin. Its up at 6000' or so and is along the Pacific crest trail. Easy run, all fire road.

No permits required for licensed vehicles.

You are built fine for this run. Should be off the trails by 12 no later than 1PM. You can wander around the area on your own but if you go with someone you will see a lot of the stuff that is out away from the touristy stuff.

Again, LOTS OF WATER...its a dryyyyyyyy heat.

tjike Has anyone seen me yet? I have had tons of looks, just makes me wonder if its anyone from here. School has been busy so haven't had the chance to even think about offroading. But did hear about redrock??? Do I need a permit or tag out here so I can go to certain places?

Sorry to hear. Makes me glad I just had RCV and alloy's installed. Let us know when you are back up and ready for a test run. We will be sure to get out. HOPEFULLY, next week my rig will be sporting 37's and possibly a teraflex anti-rock. Kinda digging the trail/street setting but not the price.

josea1952 I have yet to finish freeway ridge, it's def on the list.
06-19-2013 06:35 AM
DaK Kennedy meadows, Cerro Gordo (though the camp is closed for tours), Bristlecone pine forest, McIver's Cabin.

None of these are hard runs by any means but they are scenic and most go to historical stuff.

If ya want something a little more challenging let us know but since it is hot down here on the desert floor this time of yr, maybe check out Freeway Ridge with the group out of Bakersfield. This trail is on the back side of Isabella which is about an hr from you.

There will also no doubt be Gorman or Hungry Valley runs occuring. Which are on the the west side of the Tehachapi mountains.

If you want to visit some of our more serious trails you will have to make the hump down to Big Bear to stay out of the heat. Probably be best to make a weekend out of it, 3hrs each way.

If you see a Silver LJ or White TJ, both well built, stop and chat with 'em. Silver is Dave, great guy and knows the place well. White one is Dave's "bride", Stan (inside joke) also great guy and knows the place well from being a passenger in Dave's jeep. Also great contacts for learning the local area for whatever else you might need while you are here.

Don't get too excited with Tehachapi. Its a family/retirement horse community. Very quiet, very laid back. If you want any kind of excitement and stay reasonably local you will have to contact the boys from Bakersfield cause there ain't nothing happening in Palmcaster or Ridgecrest. If ya want to camp and fish, let me know and I can point you to some places locally and if ya want to brave the Sierra Nevada's up there as well.

We finally saw traffic, if you can call 2 or 3 vehicles traffic, on the way down nine mile canyon. LOL

Keep an eye in the California section for runs and join one if you can, you WILL have a good time.

That is good news, I love camping up there!!! My 24's are awesome when aired down, MAD traction; and the neons are great for watching rocks!!!!

Thanks
I wouldn't worry to much about getting a ticket. You will have out of state plates. Just make sure you carry a school ID or something that states you are going to school there.
