A stock Jeep would be a great vehicle to start with. IMO, even the base SE in stock form gives you the freedom to have fun, keep investments modest, and perform the 4wd role competently.

Welcome to the forum Matt, I would suggest browsing the TJ Jeep Wrangler Forum
Plenty to learn from there. Good luck on your search...

IMO, you should get one as stock as possible. If you buy a Jeep with someone else's mods, you don't know how well things were done. I'm partial to soft tops and the extras you get with the different models are up to you. Because this is the newbie check-in area, you may not get the answers you are looking for. I suggest you check out this forum area and post your questions there, I think you'll get a better response.

New from GA
Howdy there everyone. My name's Matt and holy cow is this site amazing. I'm very impressed at the amount of information I have already gleaned off this site.
First thing's first....I'm in the market to buy my very first Jeep. I've always been an old Ford guy but now I have a longer commute( 30 miles each way) and a little one (14 month old daughter names Eisley) I am looking into Jeeps for a variety of reasons. I like the convertable aspect, the limitless customization options and the overall toughness of the design.
I have narrowed it down to a 03-06 TJ, manual (i just like driving manuals), 6 cyl and anything but Red. I won't be doind any offroading that I know of so I don't think that a Rubicon will be necessary for me but I's like some opinions. I'd like to stay under the 15k mark as far as price.
Any suggestions that will help guide me thru this process? I have already read quite a few "buying guides" and I have a solid mechanic as well as a Jeep fanatic buddy who will be assisting me in the process.
I guess my main questions are:
1. Should I try to find a bone stock Jeep or one that has a mild life and wheel/tire package ( i definintely like the larger tire/2-3 in lift look)
2. Hardtop vs soft top
3. Are the different trim levels worth the price increases i.e Sahara vs Sport vs X
Thanx in advance for everyones input
