RevCo666 I bought my first jeep last summer, it is a 2001 TJ 4.0L 5spd w/ both factory tops. Almost stock except the PO put on 31's a week before purchasing the jeep from him. It had about 100K miles or 184K KM (for us Canadians). No signs of abuse, DD from what I understood. Several seasons later no major issues a side from regular wear and tear. Scored it for 6.5K, best vehicle I've owned to date.

bamapaddler My 2000 TJ had 142k on it last September when I got it. It has 148k now. It is all stock, no mods. So far I have had no problems. I know that the 4.0 liter is prone to cracked heads, so check it out before you buy. The six bangers are tough. I would be more concerned with condition than miles.

cjeezy Bought my 04 Sahara (DD) with 144K on the odometer. Was a little unsettling at first but the PO took great care of it over the 3 years he owned. He also drove 80 miles RT to work everyday...so about 60K of the miles are all highway!

You bought it with 119,000 miles? What year?

sinbob I bought my 06 rubi with 103k on it but it had been towed behind an rv. It also had some mods done to it.
It is my DD and in the 3 years I have had it, my frt driveshaft CV went out....upgrade to Tom Woods custom LS DS, had the rear drive shaft rebuilt and replaced the right side ball joints. knock on wood

I wheel it probly 8 to 10 times a year.....I don't baby it....but I also don't beat it to death.

Oh, and good luck in your search.....it took me over a year to find the one I wanted and I couldn't be happier

BDJeep79 I recently purchased a 2004 rubicon with only 46000 on it in near perfect condition. Has a few minor scratches here and there. It was already lifted with a 4in long arm lift and some 33's I understand people's worries about buying a modded jeep but as long as it has been taken care of and the mods have been done correctly then there's nothing to worry about.

RedSurveyor A lot of guys will tell you to stay away from modified jeeps, but I just bought a 97 with 106k miles and a fair amount of mods. Even though I think some of the mods should have been done differently, it's still in ok shape and its fun. I'll change them as I go.

mark1914 Ok. I'm patient. No rush to have another car payment. Lol. The jeep urge is strong in me! I've been looking online here in St. Louis and most of the older models have about 89,000-125,000 miles on them. I'd say 98% of them have been modded. Lift, bigger tires being the majority. I also have a client that owns a Jeep/Chrysler dealership and he's on the hunt for me as well.

RedSurveyor Obviously how it was taken care of is the biggest question. That being said, I would recommend for a tj, less than 7-8000 per year. Any more than that, and you know it was driven very frequently. Now bear in mind, if it was a daily driver it may have never been taken off road. So many variables. Be patient they are out there.

Mileage question

I've decided I want to get an older model TJ. Somewhere along the lines of a 98-05 manual. My question is how many miles should be ok on the older models? 100,xxx, 125,000? I know it depends on the previous owner how well taken care of it is I just want a ballpark figure as to how many miles I should expect. If that makes any sense.
