I miss the keyless, wife loves it as I need to open her the door

southpaw301 My wife and I own one of each. 2 door JK manual, 4 door JKU auto. They are both awesome. Gas mileage is too close to notice a difference. 2 door is way more fun to drive (lighter, turns on a dime, park anywhere, etc). 4 door is way more practical (taking passengers, kids, hauling cargo, etc). She just looked over my shoulder and said "4 door." I say "2 door." Thats the best quick summary I can give you. Good luck!

Future Wrangler I went to buy a 2dr, and waffled back and forth for a couple weeks. In the end, I went to buy a 2dr, it was gone, and then we bought the 4dr my wife wanted the next day.

The looks are really growing on me, but its just personnel preference. She wants one now, and we may pick up a 2dr.

For me the must haves were Auto, AC. Really I'm not a picky guy beyond that. I ended up with the connectivity group, and its my favorite feature on the whole jeep really. I can see skipping power options on a 2dr, but I would still get the connectivity group.

I wont do any hard core off-roading or towing, so I don't care about the gearing. The power in the 3.6 is really fine.

I am building mine for dirt roads and mall planter strip climbing. smile

m25red Gotta go with needs first. Satisfied the want by getting a Jeep at all. I went with a JKU Sport. 3.73's a must. LSD. I went Auto and could care less what people think. I drove a stick with multiple vehicles and I am way past that as this is my DD. I've 2 kids and we are getting into camping. Love the extra room for all the goods plus I plan on getting a camper at some point do the towing advantages of the 4 door mattered.
As far as what someone wants completely depends on them.

MI JeepSkate i have a 2dr, by brother has a 4dr. i wish i had more room, he complains about having too much. i rip though the woods and trails, he gets high centered a lot. i can turn on a dime, he cant.
we get the same mileage, him with the pentastar V6 me with the EGH V6, both wish we bought manuals and both wish we had towing packages.
we hunt, fish and ride mountain bikes. ive had my ice shanty on top of my jeep (hardtop) my 7 foot pole hardly fits (as well as my offroad flag) i can fit a deer in the back if i take the seat out, and i can fit my bike with the front tire off with the seat out. he can fit everything without ease and most of the time with either one section of seats down or both up.

THE BIGGEST THING I HATE, is other passengers cant treat my wrangler nice, have tried but it doesnt work. with all of my friends being over 6 foot tall they have to climb behind the passenger seat and usually scuff the sh!t out of everything. it really is a toss up

Arod_3 I wish I had gotten a 4 door for the space but other than that my 2 door is awesome
05-21-2013 08:49 PM
jadmt I wanted a 2dr and at the last minute we decided a 4 door would work better for us. I have owned my new jku for 7 months and put close to 9000 miles on it and hardly a day goes by that I wish I would have gotten a 2 door. Every time I think the 4 door is great I see a 2 door and start thinking damn I wish I would have gotten a 2 door. 2 door JK's just look right. 4 doors look just ok but not "right"

Terex I've got a '12 JKR w/ 4.1. If you ever want to tow anything, the weight limitations between the 2 door and 4 door are significant. 2 door with proper gearing max tow weight is 2,000 lbs. With 4 door it's 3,500 lbs. This is the difference between a decent sized camper with the JKU and a small trailer with the JK (unless you're getting a lovely, light weight, off-road VMI Alpine built for your 2 door ).

I love my 2 door, but wish I now had the 4 door for towing and additional room for camping.

And like others said, get at least the 3.73.

Jacin369 Went with JKU sport s got her in march love her!!! Def go with 3.73

I wanted the classic 2 door look and the sportier maneuverability. So that's what I got.

I prefer a 2 door, but with a family it was time to go with the 4 door. Glad I did now as it suits our needs. Choice was either no Jeep or 4 door Jeep. I am sure it is the JK platform but coming from a YJ and TJ the 4 door JK drives like a dream.

Like mentioned do yourself a favor and get the 3.73 gears and anit-spin.

That is where we ended up as well - although at the time they called it the "X" rather than Sport. With just a tire swap that the dealer did for $500 you have a very capable off road machine - not as good as the Rubi but a whole grunch less expensive.

I have the 2 door. I don't like the rear seat. Too hard to access with the top up(just go over the side with it down) and then there is no trunk when its up. That said, if its just me and 1 other person there is plenty of room. If more, it's tough. I probably would have bought a 4 door if I could have afforded it but in 2008 there really weren't any used ones I could afford. I have a wide assortment of racks for the jeep and a 4x8 utility trailer so that's more than enough room for me, but I do wish my boats were in my tow capacity

As far as models go...well...Sport, Sport S, Sahara or Rubi....get what fits your needs. Such questions can end up in flame wars.

And just for good measure...stick or auto...........get what fits your needs. Such questions can end up in flame wars.

But for real...get what fits your own needs and pocketbook. It all depends on how you will use the vehicle.
Best post of the day award!

And as for the OP, I had to go with a 2-door due to my maneuverability needs in tight spaces and center clearance over obstacles without needing a lift. Easier to park when I have to foray into Chicago.

I went one rung lower and got the basic Sport without the "S". The only things I wanted were 3.73s, hardtop, a/c, manual, tow group, and my choice of color. Almost as cheap as they get compared to what's on the lots!

Good call....
Make sure you get 3.73's, expecially if you are leaning towards a 4 door.

Being that I see snow in your pic, get Trac-Lok (anti-spin/LSD) as well.

When I looked at a Sport S, I considered those two items a MUST for any JKU that will see snow or rain (unless you plan on adding your own aftermarket LSD).

The other Sport S items there were "musts" for me (for not for everyone else) were:

Hardtop (a touch more security and a rear windhield wiper and defrost)
Connectivity group (bluetooth, hands free calling)
Side Airbags (safety first...kid on the way)
Auto (simply based on the vehicle I was trading and vs the vehicle I was purchasing. If I would have gotten a 2 door, it probably would have been a stick)

Something I would also consider would be dualtops (especially if you have a garage to store your hard top).

enjerhoo Just a bit of buyer's remorse here:

I should have held out for the stick
I should have held out for the leather
I probably should have held out for a lower gear ratio but the extra mileage is a good thing.
Rubi - discos: eh, the quick connects are perfectly fine. Glad I did not pay for the motor.
Don't pay for high dollar wheels - you will likely just replace them with the tire upgrade.
Anticipate blowing a few hundred the first week after you get the Jeep.
Enjoy. The JKU rides great.

Not trying to spend your money, just thinking of the few things I would have done differently

True indeed...

There are plenty that will still tell you how you screwed up by not getting what THEY wanted you to get...even if it is your money....
