Fave amps: best I have ever used were Arc audio but were too big for my Jeep. So I went with the Rockford PBR line. Great size and price, clean power. Very versatile and fit up under my dash.
Fav subs: Image Dynamics or TC Sounds - I couldn't fit either under my front seats so I went with Rockford Fosgate shallow mount 10" under each front seat. Good bang for the buck.
Fav speakers: Hands down Focal components. I always had Focal Polyglass or Kevlar in my German cars but went with their entry level components and coax for my Jeep. Couldn't be happier. Simply the best sounding speaker brand across the board in my opinion.

He may be right, I'm sure he has a lot more experience than me. Audio is a pretty subjective thing though; it depends on what kind of music you listen to, how you listen to it, and where you listen to it, which is why I think that the original question is an entirely subjective thing. Someone wishing to listen to hip hop as they cruise around town versus someone wanting to enjoy Metallica at 75 with the roof off versus someone wanting to listen to Mozart or Chopin on a leisurely commute will probably demand three completely different systems to achieve optimum results.
The one thing that they all have in common is that the stock system will suck for all of them.

I've been told in the past that Rockford Fosgate is 'dirty', but never really understood what that mean. The guy at Car Toys told me that RF is used a lot simply for raw base in competition, but it doesn't produce quality tones other than that.
...of course that was simply one audio guys opinion as well. But I gave him a bit of credibility because he said he had been doing audio since the 60's... he kinda looked that way too.

JL stuff's great but it's eyewateringly expensive.
I really like Rockford Fosgate amps, but the one I have at the moment wouldn't fit in the Jeep. I just installed an Alpine amp, and I'm reasonably impressed. The Polk speakers are pretty good for the money as well.

I am a big fan of JL 5-channel amps and their subs and Pioneer HU. I have used JL speakers as well in my last 2 vehicles and could not be happier. C3 components and C3 coaxials currently with a XD 700 and 8" W3 in the JK. All in all great sound for the money.
I have had 2 Pioneer HU as well. One DD and currently a Single Din. Both had/have an amazing sound. Both have had 3 sets of pre-outs making the hookups so easy.

|GRUMPHF||Polk for speakers, JL for amps, and whatever meets my needs at the time for a HU (right now, Kenwood). Not putting a competition system in the TJ, so I don't need to drop $$$$$|

|CoreyZ||Ive always been a fan of Alpine or JL for amps and subs, speakers I havent really had much input on and tend to just go with whatever reviews the best for the price.|

|woansleftpeg||It really depends upon the vehicle you're installing in and the type of sound you're looking to create. Most manufacturers have their own characteristics.|

JL for amp and subs.
Kenwood for a double den Deck and Alpine for a single.
Focal for mids and highs.

JL Audio for amps and sub
Eclipse for single din HU's
Speakers generally depend on what you like to listen to and how harsh of a tweeter you want. Just got my first set of Focal and the tweeter is harsher than I expected but otherwise high quality.

Your favorite brand of in car electronics?
What is your favorite brand of in car electronics, and why?
I don't know enough to know why JL Audio might be a better brand than Pioneer, or why Rockford Fosgate might sound better than Kicker, so I'm hoping some of you may have some insight.
