|kenb1023||Any updates on how well this has performed?|

|pacu44||subscribed... very interested to hear how things are going...|

Also I bet that bottleneck cant be smaller than the stock intake inlet

|Jeep757||How is its performance airflow wise? Seems like it bottlenecks as it enters the engine compartment.|

Looks great! Concerned about your issues, since I am considering this piece of kit myself.
I agree that this is the best looking snorkel on the market. I like the idea of being able to swap from high to low as well.
Thanks very much for all of the pictures.

Wanted to see if you've gotten any update from RR. Not looking for snorkel right now, but just driving around in the insane rain storm we just had with flooded streets had me nervous after seeing this YouTube video.
JK Wrangler Drowns - YouTube
Not a fan at all of AEV type snorkels. I'm more for low key mods and would probably just run low mount so its out of the way.

|oliver_jeep||I'm pretty sure the instructions say "Most" mounts still fit and they did specify putting the lights back on before the top of the snorkel so I think your fun. Im sure its a YMMV but they say itll work.|
|05-30-2013 02:33 PM|
Oliver, Is there no way to run A Pillar lights now?
I was looking into this snorkel but that would suck if I'd have to remove my D2's
|05-30-2013 11:59 AM|
|oliver_jeep||Also just to clarify I dont hear much of a whislte at all but I'm not going to say it doesn't change the wind noise at all but that was expected. I just added a plastic air tube on the front of my jeep I doubt it will be silent. Most people wouldn't even realize the noise and I could argue that its much more than my soft top but it did change. Over all I'm happy with the outcome and I have the ability to revert to stock which is a plus.|

|oliver_jeep||Just an update. Like I said I got the inner fender in I just needed some heat and some more will power. I suggested to RR that they put the heat gun option in the manual because its pretty much necessary. Otherwise I have heard nothing on my breather tube coming off of the air box. Again this isn't a "huge" deal I just don't use the bolts to hold it onto the radiator it doesn't go anywhere and doesn't rub. Hoping I hear something just so I don't feel ignored but we will see.|

|eton||It does take a beating - but its held up for two years now! I had to do alot of airbox work also since the jk stock box has holes in the bottom! And of course extending the breathers, which was way more work than the snorkel install!|
|05-24-2013 12:00 PM|
|oliver_jeep||It would also concern me that the other snorkels hang out to the side of the windshield and I tend to get close to a lot of trees/brush.|
|05-24-2013 11:41 AM|
|oliver_jeep||I just don't care for the hood style snorkel. Its a personal opinion. Even if I had a fender ripped off it would probably not touch my snorkel. Its pretty well tucked up.|
|05-24-2013 11:25 AM|
|HAFICON||Nice I like it especially with the low mount there is less exposed of the unit to rip off. As is I have had a fender removed on the trail would have been pissed if it would have been my snorkel.|
|05-24-2013 11:12 AM|
That looks really good - I have the aev and it doesn't block view or whistle fwiw - I do like the cowl look - if you want to compare here's the install -
this is how it looks with the doors off.

If you had to do it all over again, would you purchase this same kit?
|05-24-2013 07:57 AM|
|oliver_jeep||Yeah Ill snap one at lunch for you and post it here.|

I have 2 reasons I didn't.
1. I don't want to cut the hood until I'm sure I want a snorkel. I actually don't go boating in my Jeep but when I offroad we sometimes hit a mudhole that looks shallow and it can suck you in and this is more of an insurance policy.
2. I personally love the ability to put the low mount snorkel on so that I dont have the RAM air going up the windsheild. For long distance driving or just general use it doesn't whistle in the wind and doesn't block any of my view.
On another note I actually like the look of this overall. It is more work but in the end it looks good.

|MacCTD||Looks good, but why did you choose this over the AEV? it seems much more complicated.|
|05-23-2013 02:16 PM|
|oliver_jeep||The cut isn't bad. They also give you a bracket to put the cowl back on so I'm not screwed if something changes. Still waiting to hear from them on my 2 remaining problems. I may try screwing the inner fender to the frame or something to draw it in tonight fixing 1 of the problems. I don't see myself getting a fix for the breather tube...|
|05-23-2013 01:16 PM|
Great pictures, thanks for going through all the effort. That cut didn't seem bad at all.
I was hoping that it didn't occupy the air box space so that it could be a potential 2nd battery location.

|robdizzle||Sucks your having issues but it is nice to see a company trying to help you out. Nice rig by the way!|
|05-23-2013 12:10 PM|
Hope it all works out, you know there's a few of us following!
I guess the major factors on deciding between the snorkels on the market, assuming they all help prevent hydrolock with proper use, are:
- performance (and if not equal, what losses or gains are in the most-used part of the power band)
- what you have to cut (cutting fender, cutting cowl or cutting hood)

All the newest photos are uploaded here: 2012 Wrangler JKU Install of Rugged Ridge Modular XHD Snorkel Kit - a set on Flickr
My 2 problems are the fender is sticking out on the back of the fender and that the breather tube coming off the air box is angled to high so it doesn't bolt onto the top of the radiator area like it did before. I have an idea for the inner fender to pull it back in but I'm waiting on a reply from RR. As far as the breather tube its functional, doesn't seem to rub on the hood, and is solid. I'd still like to see a fix but I'll see what Rugged Ridge does.
Shes up and running again!

|n3tfury||Good to hear.|
|05-23-2013 10:13 AM|
|oliver_jeep||I'll get you guys an update with more photos. I will elaborate but RR rep was very helpful and I got it "functional" I still have 2 issues but they aren't show stoppers. They are still working with me and seem concerned and motivated to resolve it so thats a very good mark for the company itself.|
|05-23-2013 08:03 AM|
|n3tfury||Crap! Hopefully they get your issues resolved. Thanks for the write up and info, I know it can be a PITA.|
