jandaso ok so new tom woods front driveshaft is on the way ... plus i just ordered a 30 spline axle for the rear driver side since it had a "wobble" and well it might be bent, but i been driving the jeep without the front shaft and the vibrations are all gone. There might be just a little but i think is coming from that wobble.
05-23-2013 02:02 PM
jandaso did you had a chance to check the driveshaft play you have when turning it by hand ?
05-23-2013 01:57 PM
98 tj sport Well I would pull it apart and look at everything just to be sure everything inside is ok
05-23-2013 12:21 PM
jandaso oh well .... nope i have not seen such a thing on her... i looked at it yesterday trying to figure out why it was giving me that clunk noise.

98 tj sport U shouldn't have to take the cover off, although it wouldn't b a bad idea, if it has a c clip emininator u should b able to take the wheel and drum off and c if the shaft is bolted to the tube via a plate or not, but I would take the cover off to verify anyway, never hurts

jandaso you know what ..... i bought the axle already built ... i will have to check if the guy just changed the axles to 30 splines to be used with the lockers and the gears.... supposedly the superior D35 had the C clip eliminator but i talked to the previous owner and he said he does not have that....but im still have some doubts so i will have to open that baby up .... im so stupid and to think that i actually had a visual inspections of the internals to verify that it was all there, and i didnt manage to check for that.
05-23-2013 10:54 AM
98 tj sport Well idk ik with the regular 35 the cross shaft keeps it from moving in and out so the c clips can't fall out, but I'm not sure how it is with a super 35 kit cuz that gets rid of the c clips doesn't it
05-23-2013 10:34 AM
jandaso pulling them out and pushing them in
05-22-2013 08:46 PM
98 tj sport How did u move the tires like spinning them or pulling them out and pushing them n
05-22-2013 06:30 PM
jandaso If you lift the up complete with the tires up in the air an you rock the tires should they be solid ???? Or would there be a little question is because when I have the jeep up I went ahead and rock the tires in and out the axles and felt and heart a small clunk noise
05-22-2013 06:28 PM
jandaso Took the front shaft out and almost all of the vibrations are gone, I need to rebuild the drive shaft since all the joints are all bad and need to get that she.....thanks everybody for the comments ....also I need to figure out why I have that clunk noise
05-22-2013 03:28 PM
98 tj sport The rear shaft just slides off the transfer case, just unbolt from the rearend then pull it off, as far as the clunking, crawl under and check all ur bolts, control arms upper and lower, trac bar at both ends, trac bar mount extension if u have one, and anything else u c under there, it may help to have someone move it while u are under there to c if u can locate it, my track bar extension came loose on mine before and if I moved the back end it would clank and make noise, crawled under and found that extension on the axle side was loose.
05-22-2013 03:05 PM
jandaso Clunk noise btw
05-22-2013 02:50 PM
jandaso Nope i will have to do that.....i know how to take the front one from botch ends but i dont know how tot.ake the rear one from the tc side.....also i just went and pushed side to side the jeep and the rear driverside sounded like a loose tire but guess what ???? The wheel is not loose at all ... might be a loose axle ??? Man just a eild guess

98 tj sport Angles don't look bad from what I can c, have u tried removing each driveshaft individually and see if removing either on gets rid of the vibes?
05-22-2013 01:37 PM
n00g7 Any lateral movement?
05-22-2013 12:38 PM
jandaso Does this work ?
05-22-2013 07:12 AM
98 tj sport Here is a video showing the built in clearance in my yukon. Just fyi
05-22-2013 07:07 AM
98 tj sport Its hard to tell the angle in those pics try to take some perpendicular to everything liike this so we can get a better view

Attachment 252201

And before anyone says anything yes ik the angle is off n that pic. Anyway take a pic like that so we can c better make sure to get the pinion on the diff as well as the output on the transfer case.

As far as the play goes I will say this, when I swapped the d44 into my jeep and regeared everything I had some slop in the shaft, I pulled everything back apart to check it, I could hold the ring gear and the driveshaft would barely move, I could also hold the ring gear and move the tires a good bit before they wouldn't move, the only thing I can figure is that my yukon locker has some slop/play in it, and based off of a video I watched from yukon on how the locker is made/works it is designed that way. Now that's not to say u have to much slop cuz I don't remember how much mine moves, ill try to remember to crawl under there today and spin the shafts and c how much they move.

SuicideSaints That is way to much play. There should be some slack but not that much in the video.
05-21-2013 10:38 PM
Michigunman Is the differential pinion angle parallel to the transfer case pinion? Can't really tell from the pics but almost looks like the diff is pointing down slightly.

jandaso Maybe 3 years ago. Is there anything i can do for that?
05-21-2013 09:56 PM
jeepwayoflife That play in the driveshafts seems way too much. I understand them having some play because of backlash in the differential, but that seems excessive. Who installed your gears and how long ago?
05-21-2013 07:05 PM
jandaso Any thoughts ????

jandaso Tires were balanced a month ago
05-21-2013 04:46 PM
Bigkidneys Maybe your tires are out of balance? Had vibes around 50mph with mine wwhen I had a 2in lift and upgrading to new shocks and having my front tires re-balanced made it go away.
