UFOtestpilot I have a '99. Factory front is 3/8, 24 pitch. Rear drum is 1/4, 24 pitch. I hope you get it sorted out. If you change your mind or if anyone else needs factory bleed screws for rear wheel cylinders let me know, I'll mail them out.

Snacktical C_goodnow: I found this out too, the front disc bleeder screws were 7/16". But I am not too surprised at this. I figured my Jeep was manufactured later in the 00' run and the company that put it together had a bunch of alternating Standard and Metric hardware laying around Removing the master cylinder was a good example of this. The bleeder screws on the master cylinder were 12mm while the mounting nuts were 1/2".Go figure...

UFOtestpilot: As I stated before I was a bit burned by driving between three different auto parts store to find the 1/4" bleeder screw they offered was too small. When installing it almost slid completely in-one size too small I guess. I appreciate the offer but I'll just have to bite the bullet and go to the dealer. Don't feel like spending $30 on a $1 part, but oh well; sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes the bar eats you. :P

UFOtestpilot The size is 1/4 with a 24 thread pitch. DO NOT install an 8mm one, the thread pitch is different.

I happen to have two brand new 1/4 24 bleed screws, out if factory wheel cylinders I just replaced. I'll gladly mail them to you if you want, but you should be able to get them locally today if you wanted. Either way, let me know if you want them.

c_goodnow if no one has them then the dealer might be the only option. On my jeep I've noticed that the front bleeders are different than the rear bleeders. No idea if that's stock or if they were replaced. I think the rear ones are 3/8 but I'm not certain ('99)

TJ Brake Drum Bleeder Screw.

Hey folks, have a doozy of a question here:
So when bleeding my brakes the other day, the first bleeder screw I come across (Passenger-Rear) was nice and rounded from the last guy who bled them (mechanic from about a year ago). It was rounded just enough so that any box wrench could not get a solid grip, but an 8mm socket could.
I compared with the Driver-Rear's bleeder and found the one I need is sized for an 8mm box wrench.
Three visits to three separate O'Reilly's turned up the size they have on file is too small (sized for a 1/4").
As you can guess I just made due and kept plenty of rags on hand when bleeding with the socket. My brakes are working fine, nice and stiff feeling, and I have been checking for leaks for which I have had none.
Would anyone know where I can get this replacement bleeder screw? Even on a couple online sites they only offer the 1/4".
