Run out about 25' of winch line. Get close to 18 wheeler and attach to his bumper. slowly let off the throttle and take up the slack. when cable is tight, shift to neutral and coast. You'll get great mileage.
I haven't worked out the disconnect if you need to exit and he's going cross country.

If you're uncertain if you're speedo gear has been changed, get one that fits your current setup. I put mine in when I realized that the previous owner hadn't after he lifted it and put on 33s. This will help you get a more accurate idea of what you has mileage is. After I put mine in, I'm in the neighborhood of 300 miles per tank. It's good enough for me. That's about the same total mileage as my STI I had before the Jeep.
Frankly though, don't worry so much about it. Enjoy the Jeep. It gets crap has mileage but makes up for that in fun points. Don't be too upset with guys telling you to just sell it. The long time guys here get tired of answering the question. It's been asked repeatedly and answered repeatedly.

It seem to me that our TJ's have 19 gallon tanks but only fifteen are available due to where the fuel pump is located. There is a fix somewhere I believe so all the fuel can be used.
Maybe someone will chime in with more knowledge on this.
Here is a link I found on this subject.

|kshaws21||Yea dont worry with silly aftermarket air filters. Your stock filter is just as efficient as any you will find for the rpm range our Jeeps operate in.|

|n00g7||K&N air filters are garbage and will yield no mpgs. You can replace your plugs and clean your throttle body... that may yield better mileage if the plugs in there are on their way out. You can also run a fuel cleaner like chevron's techron concentrate through a tank.|

|Capt_Zoom||Best I've gotten with my 33" 3"lift '99TJ is 21mpg average...but that was in duluth in the middle of sub zero winter. For some reason my TJ loved the cold weather. In summer and now in Baton rouge i get around 14-15mpg.|

It's a perfectly fine place to discuss MPG. It usually gets weird when folks start talking miles per tank, fractions thereof, or making claims that are based on miscalculations or disinformation.
At least that's been my experience here.

replace your fuel filter/ strainer, it's in tank.
replace your air filter with a K&N
make sure your tires are at 35 psi
replace your spark plugs
make sure your battery terminals are clean, I mean sparkling.
this should get you a few extra miles / gallon.
And yes, do a proper mpg calculation.
I did all this and gained some m/g even with all the doubters out there it is possible.
I have over 200 miles on my tank so far and it isn't even in the red zone, <I know> this isn't a proper calculation, but as of right now I haven't had a chance to do one since I replaced my fuel sending unit. I can tell you I have 65 more miles on this tank so far than what is usual for me and my driving 20cty 20hwy / day
p.m. me if you want any private advice or have any questions. This forum is not a good place to discuss miles per gallon.
