CoreyZ Yup, apple is definitely childproof. THat is until you go jailbreaking it. Then its all sorts of funky. I think that if you gave the S3 or the Galaxy Nexus a chance, you would see how far android has come to the level of ease-of-use that apple has. My girlfriend was the same way with her Iphone and now she loves her S3 and spits on apple products.

mcdull Depends on which Android you have.
If you have Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2 or new Sony Xperia, they support MirrorLink thru the USB cable.
The Sony XAV-601BT and XAV-701HD, some new JVC and Alpine have that.
The Sony ones have mirror mode, which turn the head unit's touch screen same as the phone screen (don't expect you can play games that require multi-touch though, since the head unit screen is non multi-touch)
Though Samsung doesn't officially support mirror mode as they said it's a distraction to the driver, there is a hacked firmware to enable mirror mode on S3.
Anyway, with regular mode, you still have the music and navigation controlled from the head unit touchscreen.

I just have Sony XAV-601BT installed with backup camera installed with the stock Infinity amp. I'm using Axxess CHTO-013BB ($15 used from ebay) and ASWC-1 ($45 new), it retains factory amp with balance and fading and also steering wheel controls.

Mattk11 Reason I have stuck with Apple all these years is simplicity if use. I don't want to eff with stuff to make it integrate. Jail breaking sounds great but I don't want to. I want it to work out of the box. iPhone 5 screwed everything up by going 100% digital out.

That is the biggest reason Android has ZERO appeal to me. Sure if I want to find workaround for a lot of things, it would blow Apple out of the water, but I don't want to. I'm too tired.

CoreyZ Why not ditch the apple crap and go droid? The parrot can do all of that native without having to "mirror" anything. Just needs a data connection which can be tethered from the cell phone in your pocket or your console. Can even use USB data sticks (the kind from tmobile and verizon etc) for its internet, or a wifi hotspot. Hell, the Parrot has dual bluetooth so I can either have 2 devices bluetoothed to it at the same time, or use one device to bluetooth stream pandora while it also bluetooth tethers the internet connection.

I'm considering getting the same one and have a few questions.

1). Did you put a backup camera on it? Can you put two and select between them? How do you like it if?

2). I understand that if you jailbreak your iphone, you can mirror the screen of the phone on the HU to use standard Nav like google maps. Did you try this? I'm really trying to achieve a fairly passive HU that allows anything on my ipad/iPhone be displayed on the screen, a great sound and good camera views.

The vast majority of amps you'll buy these days are 2 ohm stable, I wouldn't be concerned about things blowing up. You'll quickly find the limitations of the speakers though.

david.w.johnson A guy on my post has a JK like mine. He modified his dash so he can slide his Samsung Tab 7" into a mount where his stereo was. Uses it for GPS, MP3, movies, etc. Inspired me to use mine on my motorcycle and bluetooth it to my headset. Considering it on the Jeep. Not sure how to hook it to the speakers. I'm going to find him and ask.

1) I thought App Radio was kludgy, slow and overall not very good. I pulled all the extra cables out And sold them on eBay for what I paid for them. Don't miss App radio for a second.

2) If you run App Radio on my unit, you lose access to the second USB. Why? Stupid.

3) When you use all the App Radio function, you cannot use the music player that came standard in the head unit, you have to use the app that you download to play you music. It's slow and frankly pissed me off.

4) I downloaded and paid for all the Nav apps in the iTunes site that integrate with App Radio. They sucked. Period. Applied to Apple for a refund and got my money back within 24 hours.

5) If you feel you must have App Radio you DO NOT need Pioneers cable kit for $100. All you need is an HDMI cable. Any HDMI cable will work. One end goes into the back of the dead unit. The other goes into the Apple AV cable you also have to buy for $40. The lightning to USB cable that came with your phone can plug into USB1 on the back of the HU and into the Apple AV cable. That makes USB2 useless. Don't waste your money.

You may ask why I didn't return the head unit and go with something cheaper. Three reasons:

1) 4v pre-amp outputs times 6.
2) Better than average EQ
3) Most important - it has a detachable face.

The iPhone music interface that is standard (non-App Radio) is better than the App Radio version. I still have Pandora.

Peace
Thanks, well CNET said Apple integration was great so I guess the Android must really suck.
I guess I will stay away from App Radio.

Whatever you do, if you replace the head unit, plan on spending money on a new amp and speakers too. Replacing the head unit means losing controls with the amp like fade/balance and you don't get any better sound unless you replace the amp. Then because the stock speakers suck and are 2ohm, you need to get speakers to match the resistance of the new amp so you don't kill anything.

The.Pioneer App Radio can be had for a lot.less than the.latest and greatest GPS ready head units but CNET says Android integration is shaky and.they try and sell you a 120$ kit to connect with which is.obviously not an option.
Anyone out there running one of these and.if so were you able to buy an after market cable for connecting?
Based on the CNET review it seems.like waiting for V3 will be the way.to go for Android but.just wondering if anyone has this and what impressions ya'll have.
If not App Radio what are ya'll running that has been good to excellent?
Thanks!
