I think they make a track for the Wrangler. In fact I think Jeep has the Yooper Edition with 60" tires or a track and skis for the front.

My father in law is 85 and he has seen every winter except when he was in the Korean War. He still horses the 10HP snowblower to clean the driveway every day. Its funny, my wife absolutely hates winter but then I took her out of there back in 84 so she has not had to deal with that much snow. I love it too but just wish spring came a little earlier. Then again those black flies are like small cessnas sometimes.

The DI routes are a little different, several areas are marked as only being open to 4x4 vehicles and require a state ORV trail permit.

SnoHam13 Hi Ed

as far as I know its open
there is logging going on back in there
wife and I went from the end of US 41 all the way down to the Montreal river bridge with a stock 97 wrangler then took a trail across to 41 last year
nice ride ,a little rock climbing but a awesome color trip
just watch out for the ''little guys'' cause they don't look
we are going up to copper harbor Sunday for dinner and ill check things out

another nice easy trip is the gratiot river road down to the lake

give me a shout wen your up in the area

Captain Ed Hi there, good to hear from a local. I love the UP and have since I decided to go to Tech in 1980.

I actually did hit a bear in my very young days at Tech. Damn Toots. I hit it outside of Kearsarge on 41. I drove into the old State police post on Rockland and met 3 troopers in there and told them what happened. The didn't believe me until they went and looked at my Pinto wagon and found bear hair in the door trim strip. All 3 of them took off and I never heard from them again. I am sure they wanted a nice trophy but that thing hit the car, rolled, jumped up and ran.

I will be up in October but probably wont be much better than stock on my Jeep. Is the Mandan road navigable from Copper Harbor back around to 41? My father in law would like the ride. Otherwise I know there are many dirt roads but do you have any suggestions about where I can go or better yet where I should not go with my stocker right now.

I'm gonna add you as a friend here. Taker care.

Ed

In laws are in Calumet and Houghton so I am looking forward to some good colors in the fall. We may wear hats and take the top off. I wish I was closer to the Keewenaw. Its still 4.5 hours away from me and on top of that we don't have many great places to offroad down near GB.
just seen your post
we are just north of calumet up on the ridge
almost got a black bear tonight out by Hungarian falls
ran in front of the wrangler

kisportolt went out for a ride this evening with it so nice out and got a little dirty. not nearly as much snow in the woods as I thought there'd be, but the roads are still pretty soft in spots.

we were near pricket dam and the Ottawa national forest

MonkeyMonsoon My family is from the U.P. (Ishpeming/Negaunee area). We usually make the trek back up there every August for a week or two. I love it up there. Even though I'm stuck on the east coast I'm a yooper at heart.
