|Seginus||My rears are dinged up a bit from road debris. Like most, it was ok until I added rubi rails and ace sliders. Planning on getting front mud flaps too but it is what it is at this point.|

I eventually slipped a set of Husky mud flaps on and that stopped the rock dings on the rear.
My 08JK fenders remain in surprisingly great condition, with but a few little blebs & dings, hardly noticeable.

My 2013 rear fenders look like they have need sandblasted; major rock chips. I run blizzaks with spacers in the winter and they pick up and throw the gravel. I've already had them repainted once. I do have the MOPAR mud guards installed but changed out the Sahara running boards for rubi rock rails, and the tires stick out past the fenders an inch or so.

|PFB||Mine look great and I do quite a bit of highway driving. I do re-hand wax the front (and rear) facing vertical surfaces atleast 3 times a year. This probably doesn't help against big rocks as much as all the bugs that Jeeps flat surfaces murder. I think it also helps prevent scratches on the minimal trails I do.|

|MonRen||I would appreciate an answer for this. My new 2014 Sahara has already been to bady shop over someone opening a door and removeing paint from fender. Surely someone makes an adhesive guard for these fender edges. If not I wish I had not gotten painter fenders. Please help if you can. email@example.com.|

|bcbud||I have 18 months and 3 m plastic protection on leading edges of rear flairs have kept them looking fresh even with dog entry scratches and wider wheels. Sliders give no protection compared to Sahara factory steps however.|

My wife's 2007 with stock tires and zero off roading look like new after six years.
My 2012 with a moderately wider tire and some off roading have about two or three rock chips after 1.5 years. Overall I am pleased.
The main thing they catch here is bugs. But so do the black fenders.

I'm going to do the same thing I did on my 07 Sahara if I decide on painted fenders for my 14. Like everyone said, once you lose the side steps and go to larger tires everything gets thrown against those rear fenders.
I just had a clear vinyl decal made up like I've seen on other cars that just sticks on and protects against rock chips. I ended up changing them every year due to chips and UV damage but my fenders still looked like new and they were not that noticeable unless you walked up close.
I don't remember where I got them but I do remember getting them custom made. Pixeldecals would probably be happy to make you up a set.

Going on 21,000 miles, and the Sahara Tan fenders, for which the color hides scratches extremely well, still look brand new. The stock tires and side steps have nodoubt helped with the lack of rock chips. For me, I'm sure that the plain black plastic fenders would have been a total pain in the arse to keep clean and new looking, with the inevitable embedded stains and UV fading.
Anyway, I really enjoy how the painted fenders give the JKU a more finished and cohesive appearance, not to mention, painted fenders give stock Jeeps a much wider looking stance. The nondescript unpainted ones tend to make Jeeps look all pinched in from a front and rear view, IMHO.

|DF Jeep||My 08 dark green had 82,000 miles (some off road) and had only a couple light scratches near rear doors. My 13 is black and so far so good. I think they hold up better than the fast fading black unpainted ones.|

They held up just fine to rocks and mud. And sand, snow, salt, gravel, grass, and hail. And sun. They hold up well.

My are not holding up at all. Only about 7000 km on my 2013 and the rear fenders have chips all over them and some rather large chunks of paint completely missing underneath on the lip where rocks have flown up and hit them, completely exposing the black plastic underneath. I do live on a gravel road about 1 km from the highway, so that is partly to blame, but still this does not seem right. Imagine if they were made out of steel..... I would be having rust issues already.
I should say this all occurred with the plastic running boards in place. I just removed them last night and put on a used set of rubi rails and just ordered a set of ace rails from jason, so I imagine the chips will only get worse.

Pretty good so far...
But I will say that people getting in and out of the rear seat (or if you are dragging big stuff out of the backseat) need to be careful to not scatch the fenders.

My rear door hinges and painted fenders have some rock chips after 4 months of ownership. This is due to having larger tires and offset wheels sticking out of the fenders very very slightly and therefore flinging rocks back towards the hinges and fenders. I guess if you stay with stock wheel offset then you should be ok.
The painted fender look is what I want so rock chips or not, I wouldn't change my decision even if I could. In a worst case scenario the fenders and door hinges can be re painted later on.

|nsande1||I didn't have a problem UNTIL i replace the plastic side steps with rock rails. The side steps act as mud flaps keeping rocks from being thrown on the rear fender flares. now i have small chips in my sahara's rear body match fender flares. :/|

|backdoc||I've had mine since the first of the year and I don't have any dings yet. I removed my side steps and put on Rubicon rails and what I have noticed are a couple of small rock chips on the leading edge of the rear fender flares as they are no longer protected by the Sahara steps. So far so good! Good luck with your decision.|

Although I've only had mine maybe 3 weeks. They are doing well.
Even after my dog decided to jump up on my front fender to look at me on the other side.. left a scratch that buffed out easy.

Sahara Owners - How are the Painted Fender Flares Holding Up?
I originally wanted a Sport S but now I'm considering a Sahara for a mall crawler (no off-roading). I prefer the black fenders on the Sport as they would seem to be less prone to parking lot dings. Wondering how the painted fender flares have held up for you Sahara owners? Do you get more noticeable dings and scratches than you would on the unpainted black ones?
