This is a 285 sitting next to my 255 hope it helps. They are duratracs and ride great. Discount tire rocks.

damndirtydog 285/70/17 by numerical comparison doesn't sound like a lot, but the difference will be apparent once the tires are mounted on the vehicle.
You'll gain a bit over 1/2 inch diameter and an 1 1/4'' on the width.
Your jeep will definitly have a beefier appearence and have a significant boost in traction offroad.
I ran 285/70/17 Nitto's for the past few years before I changed over to 305/70/16 Duratracs. Those are 2'' wider than stock and just a smidge taller than the Nitto's were.
Your Jeep is engineered to utilize a specific size tire so anything larger than 33'' is going to start having an effect on the performance of your jeep. That's why you see guys running 35'' and up have upgraded suspension, axle modifications and gearing changes.

dawhitesJKU the 285/70/17 gives you the green light to upgrade from stock.
the 285/75/17 is questionable depending on tire (stock/no upgrades)

but since you have a leveling kit, and spacers...your all set.
285/70/17, 285/75/17, 33x12.5/17...pick your poison.

JKU...just leveled with teraflex & added 1.5 spacers...stock 17" wheels what tires??

New here and really enjoying the forum (thank you) - just picked up our wrangler unlimited and did the basic teraflex leveling it (without shocks or springs) and also added spidertrax 1.5 spacers all is currently sitting on the oem 255/75/17 tires...I want to sell those (while they are still basically brand new) and put some new rubber on the Jeep. Problem is wifey likes the freedom edition gray wheels it came with so the wheels are going to stay....what size tire would be a reasonable upgrade over what we seems the tire size of choice (for most not wanting to go to 35's) is a 285/70/ that correct and is that cool for my stock wheels or would a 285/75/17 work out better? The 285/70 seems that it is so close to what I have now it might not be worth switching

Thanks all
