As far as the certification and effect on factory warranty.. personally I would run Pennzoil conventional or synthetic. Both are good oils that will perform well in this 3.6L motor.

At this point I would be more concerned with other warranty related issues.. like the head design and heat issues. If this motor craps out, it will be due to the design, not the oil. I've had mine running once in 105 degree weather. Not sure yet if this motor likes hot weather.

I'm going to do my own shade tree testing to make sure this motor gets the juices it needs to last more than 10K miles without a head replacement.

I just got off the phone with the dealership and they are using Pennzoil. For warranty purposes only.. I am either going with Pennzoil Ultra Ultra-Class Full Synthetic Motor Oil or the Mobil Super Synthetic.

So what is up with the issue of the engine temp? Is there a certain temp that would be hazards to the engine? or would it just simply overheat?

Yes, I'd really like to use Mobil 1 as well since I've had success with it in all my other vehicles and can get a good price on a case at CostCoo when it's on sale. I will have to try the Mobile Super Synthetic maybe. I took my JKR in to the dealership last week for it's first oil change since it was free and they use Pennzoil...probably just the basic stuff.

The dealers filled with whatever they had in stock... I always bought Mobil 1 even though Pennzoil was spec'd.

I think this was a ploy to keep Pennzoil happy... that's my take on this issue after a lengthy disscussion with the parts manager about this during the time - need to remember this was four to five years ago.

Roger... I copy.

The reason for me posting this is because it seems the Chrysler MS-6395 has given approval to Mobil 1 Super and Mobil 1 Super Synthetic for use. Therefor not effecting any warranties.

However, it has NOT approved Mobil 1 5w20 Advanced Full Synthetic Engine Oil and can still possibly effect your warranty.
Now many of us can get a goodnight sleep now knowing that we can use Mobil 1 without taking a chance on some stupid warranty

MS-6395 issue with Mobil 1 update

When I heard that Mobil 1 did not meet the MS-6395 specs... I was like... Whaat!? For reals?. So I had read up and came to the understanding that Mobil 1 and Chrysler has some sort of fall out. That Chrysler MS-6395 had changed some of it requirements, so to be approved by MS-6395 Mobil 1 would have to be tested for like two years! I then thought back to when I was at the dealership and I did remember them using Mobil 1. So I was like WTF.. over. Well to get to the point.. I wanted to keep my integrity so I started to look for oils that met the recommendation. I had decided that I was going to use Pennzoil Synthetic Oil, but all along still wanting Mobil 1. Well I just read this today.

This is for Mobil Super (I believe either a non or some sort of half breed synthetic oil).

It is the product description, features and benefits, applications, specifications and approvals. Look what it says about Chrysler MS-6395, under Specifications and Approvals.

Mobil Super

Now, this is Mobil Super Synthetic and look what it says about Chrysler MS-6395, under Specifications and Approvals

Mobil Super™ Synthetic

Now, check this one

Mobil 1 5w-20 Advanced Full Synthetic Engine Oil

***all this will have to be verified by Chrysler of course. I will stay on topic***
