running 35's is expensive...its said that 35's are a 5k upgrade in terms of running them right.
I also have a 2.5L and when i go to 35's in the near future (few months - want to do it before winter), i'm going to be running 4.88's with a ford 8.8 rear and will be doing either a d44 front swap or just a super 30 kit for mine. I'll also upgrade the steering.

You don't need to worry about upgrading the front axle with 35's as long ad you don't lock it.
Your rear options for a direct swap/upgrade are:
Super 35 kit: This upgrades your Dana 35 to 30 spline chromoly shafts and adds a locker, allowing you to run 35" tires locked with no worries. You don't even need a lift for this but you will need to be able to Regear.
Dana 44 from a tj: This would be a direct swap in and while it wouldn't require a lift, its sure very helpful. I put in my Dana 44 in like 5 hours with a lift and a friend. You will need to Regear this too unless you find a Dana 44 with 4.88 gears already.
Ford 8.8: Unless you buy one from ECGS that is all set up for a tj, you will need to change the mounts on the axle and most likely Regear it unless you find one with 4.88 (you won't unless someone already did it)
Now if you upgrade your front axle to a Dana 44, you could go with deeper gears like 5.13 that would be proper for your engine/transmission. With 35" tires also comes brake upgrades and steering upgrades to keep everything safe. If I was you I would stay on 33" tires, upgrade my rear axle and add a locker, and spend the money I was going to spend on brakes and steering on things like high clearance skid plates and a Regear. If you stay on 33" tires you can have "proper" gearing at 4.88 with your Dana 30 front axle.

Take a look here to see what axle you have. Most likely a D30 front and D35 rear since that's what was stock. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/st...ations-452871/
And since he as already stated he has a manual, 4.88 is the best option because its the largest ring gear that can fit in a D30. Unless he wants to swap in a front D44 then I'd say got 5.13. But that's over kill for what he's doing anyway.

|Big Cole||You can buy a built 8.8 from ecgs then have the front geared to match. Expect to pay around $2300 for the new rear axle w/ locker and front regear.|

|Ellisa1029||Yeah it's five speed. And okay where can get the axle from? Junkyard or do they make a new axle combination that would already come with everything? Sorry kinda new to it only gearing issue I have ever dealt with is putting new posetrac in a Camaro|

I am new to the jeep world and loved it immediately! My current set up is stock gears and a 3" suspension lift and 33" tires ( not put on by me) and was thinking about moving up to 35s! My TJ is a 4 cylinder and looking for suggestions on gearing ratios! Also if I change the ratio do I need to change anything else?
