Sovereign08 Hey guys just a super late update, love the 4.56 sierras I put in. Took me 9 hours on the front to fully clean the axle and shim and like 15 on the back. The track loc from Chrysler was at 15/1000 in of play and only rated for 4-7 lol so it was shot. Replaced that and being first time took me awhile to figure out how the clutch packs fit in there but it is a champ. 1st and 2nd are the same basically city, but rarely need 3rd on steep trails. I can feather my throttle and she climbs almost any hill is 2nd gear. When I catch sand I will stop and transition to low if it's bad, but it still pulls out in 2nd gear. Jeeps should come with 4.11+ setups the stock 3.73 in my Dana 44 is such crap compared. Any questions on parts compatibility hit me up!

I have a 98 TJ with similar running gear (8.8 rear but same everything else). I just went to 4.56s. Love them. 70 is 2700 rpms on almost new 33x10.5 BFG MT KM2s. I think I would have regretted 4.10s.

Jeepfixer1 I'm sure that should put you about 25/2600 rpm in 5th gear at 65mph.

Jeepfixer1 I'd reccomend 4.56s that way you'll have good power in fifth gear climbing hills.

Sovereign08 Currently I'm on some 33" 12.50's on 15 steels and love them. If anything I'm getting MUDs in 33" instead of the a/t I have. It's a 5spd, np231 tv with an ax15 tranny. Been talking with some friends and since I'm going to a long arms kit in 4.5" soon with the same tires the 4.56 sound like a great option since this will get light wheeling at least 2 weekends a month plus just daily to work. I think I'm passing on lockers for now but they will come

Jeep_Gypsy I had the same problem, I went with 4.56 and 35s been like that for about 18 months. I love it and highly recommend them.

Gearing on 98 tj

So I'm doing my gears on a Sahara tj. Has d30 front and d44 rear and originally thought the 4.10 would suffice, but I'm getting mixed answers from friends. It's a trail/camping/hunting jeep that is still a daily driver. Would going to a 4.56 or 4.88 ratio be too much as a daily driver? The trails I do have 3 foot water and large fallen logs, steep inclines, but no real rock crawling. Any input is appreciated
