coelement777 My dad loves toyotas. He had a 06 tacoma then a 08 FJ cruiser and now drives a 12 tacoma. I have driven all of them and i just bought a new jeep yestirday. The tacomas, both double cab v6 with the trd off road package were very boring to drive. The FJ was nice but the top dosent come off, and although more fun to drive then a tacoma wasnt nearly as fun as my JK. I love my jeep, go buy one and dont look back.
Also i really like your trailer, i may have to pick one of those up for myself.

the thread could have just stopped right here.

Snowboard One Make sure you get the rag top. I got the rage top and wasn't sure if I would like it. In love with it. Top down, doors off= priceless!

Snowboard One Get the JKU! I just got my 2013 JKU Rubi and I can't wipe the smile off my face. The attention I get from the females is awesome.

n00g7 Now all you need to do is get a real ATV, not one of those kids' toys.

Really like that trailer though.

Freedom Lover 1776 Well no question a Wrangler Unlimited is in my future and it will be new to near new. Probably will special order a 2014. The feedback from all really touched a nerve! Ah, the judge ruled in my divorce case and justice was served. Now I have to get back on my feet and find a job or business to start. I love sales and marketing and am exceptionally skilled and experienced. But, my former industry, store fixtures and displays is dead, and I am really seeing age discrimination as I am 57. Anyone who has any ideas please contact me. I have been on the dole for 9 months and desperately want to be gainfully employed again.

Mind is Made Up

Attachment 261963Thanks to ALL who responded. I looked at the 4 door Wranglers yesterday and there is no doubt I will be getting one, most likely a special order to get exactly what I want. I need the 3500lb towing capacity and there are not many out there that are equiiped that way, plus want the side airpbags, Uconnect, etc.

The TOPLESS feature is a must have with the awesome San Diego weather plus much of my off road and camping fun will be in Anza Borrego State Park and Ocotillo Wells Off Road areas, about 100 miles from where I live.

Check out the Sylvan Sport Mobile Adventure Trailer I already own, 800lbs, built like a tank, extruded aluminum frame, 13" ground clearance. I wish the Gecko Green was still available as that would be a perfect match for the trailer. Attachment 261949

panthermark If you do get the Jeep, and you have a garage with just a little bit of extra room, add one of these:
Utility Trailer 4'x8' - Heavy Duty Folding Utility Trailer (and always use a 20% off coupon.

It will help quite a bit. Just make sure you get the one with 12" wheels. They used to sell a cheaper one with 8" wheels.

BLK2012 If you are in San Diego you need the ability to go topless.

FJ's look nice outside but don't like the interior much. The blind spots are killer as well. This may get worse gas mileage than the JK. This may be one of the few affordable vehicles that are less practical than the Jeep. Plus nowhere near the fun.

The Tacoma is nice, and the ability to throw things in the bed can be nice, especially if you see the need going forward.

I guess I'm trying to say Jeep, wish I bought one 20 years ago...

HAFICON I traded my 08 Toyota Tacoma TRD 4dr Speedway Blue for my 2012 JKU have not looked back.

This...

For this.

I'm not goanna lie I miss my truck. Looking at that picture makes me want it back. But I would have to have it and my Jeep. The truck was freaking awesome, but life only happens once and for me Life is "Only in a Jeep".

DallasJKU I've driven both an FJ and now a JKU. I sold my '06 Rubi and regretted it so I started trying to replace it with cars and an FJ and Xterra. Like both, but just love having the options for the Jeep. Make it exactly how you want and enjoy the heck out of it.

Johnman Hi folks, long-time lurker here.

Seriously man, my wife of all people talked me into buying her a 2-door Wrangler Sahara last year for her 40th. Loved it so much I bought myself a (used) '12 Sahara Unlimited (can't wait to sell my F150). My son has a '80s CJ.

These are the most fun vehicles on the market. No other vehicle can do what a Wrangler does. They hold their value better than even the Japanese vehicles do. They are cheaper than CR-Vs and RAVs yet when you sell them, you will get better resale. And as "iconic" vehicles, they will still look cool in 20 years.

FJ is more expensive, less versatile and doesn't look as cool. Their reliability ratings are poor and being Japanese cars, will cost much more to repair than a Wrangler. Their aftermarket options are a fraction of what the Wrangler has. Not seeing a single advantage to going Toyota.

Kelley Blue Book

Resale is only one variable in the ownership equation and it is contingent upon the locale in question. A single or limited trade in experience is not transferable to all markets and hundreds of dealers.

If Toyota has opted to kill off the FJ, then the buyer should beware.

It impossible to quantify the fun factor of Jeep ownership, but it is certainly there. I now own a JK/R and a JKU.

BigEZ I have an fj (work bought it, i'm not paying for it.)
Its fun to drive as far as how it performs, but if you're over 6' tall like me you end up sitting all bow legged b/c the seat slants back and down at the same time and also really low to the floor. Very uncomfortable driving any thing over an hour. Puts a lot of stress on the outsides of my knees.
I wouldn't buy one.

Riding Dirty My brother bought a new 2 door Sahara back in 2000 and kept telling me, "get a Jeep man they're so much fun". Didn't listen. Fast forward to 2007 and I bought my first Tacoma, awesome ride. Fast forward to 2010 and I fell in love with a 2010 2SS Camaro - phenomenal ride. Moved from Florida to the hills of Georgia and went back to a Tacoma in late 2011. Liked the Tacoma enough to buy it again but it just didn't have that "Wow" factor, like the Camaro did when I used to walk ouit in the garage at night and look at it for no reason. 3 weeks ago I traded the Tacoma in for a 10A Rubicon and as corny as it may sound I'm walking out to the garage at night to take a peak at this amazing ride. Long story short - I should have listened to older brother 13 years ago. I couldn't be happier making a monthly car payment than I am now. Good luck with your decision brother and there is life after a divorce!

Mykul Something I heard after I bought my jeep is, how will the Tacoma, FJ, or whatever look with the doors and roof off?

Of course, never say never...cause chicks dig jeeps (and bikes)...so I ended up getting married again...but this one is probably a keeper, because last Labor Day when she asked me what we were doing that day, I said driving 70 miles to go buy a new Rubicon...and she said "let's go!"

Tdog02 I like the FJ. Don't like driving it. Tacomas are great trucks, but I wanted a jeep since I was 16. It took 30 years but I finally got a jeep. Got a TJ cause it was cheaper and in my budget. I hope your new life is all that you want it to be. Getting a jeep WILL help you enjoy life more fully and you will meet some fun people. I really like the JK and look forward to getting one in the next few years.

Just like clothing, all vehicles say something about their driver whether we like it or not. Driving a Wrangler immediately tells me that someone has an innate sense of fun, and a willingness to sacrifice a certain amount of sense and practicality in the pursuit of a good time. That's the sort of person I want to hang out with.
This is the only advice necessary in this thread.

I am waiting for the job offer and the judge to decide my entire life's work. That, said, no doubt this post and all the replies have been a great help!

I am definitely going to get the 4-door unlimited, and taking the top off is so important. And what is the REAL reason, well I am of proud Scottish decent, and a quote from William Wallace at the end of the Braveheart, FREEDOM!!!!

I can see myself riding in that jeep with the top down, and a cool breeze blowing up my KILT! Heading back to camp for a cold beer and a fine glass of Scotch.

FREEDOM - Can you hear me out there!

Cheers.
Perhaps a glass of the Ardbeg, or maybe the Oban........ Or my personal favorite, Laphroaig?!?

Sounds like a plan to me!!

n00g7 Hit the gym, get thin, buy the jeep, and then pop the doors off. I always enjoy driving my jeep -- and you only get envious of other jeeps.
