Putzy So I think I found the problem.

Drivers side

Attachment 269682

Passenger side

Attachment 269683

There a piece of foam missing on the passenger side. I am going to put a piece of weather stripping on it. Hopefully that would solve the problem.

Putzy I just went by the video as well. Everything closed up nice and tight It is only on the passenger side that it leaks. I'm going to contact best top and see if they can sen me longer bows. To me it seems as if the top should be farther out of the rubber channel on the windshield. It's not really a leak its more like there's a hole thee because alot of water sprayed into the jeep from that corner. It's driving me crazy!!! I used my friends top last year and did not have any issues with her top so I don't know what's going in with this one.

Yes, it should go further up near the body of the Jeep than it is. Is it just one side that looks like this? Have you checked the wire & made sure it's installed correctly? Does it close properly with the latches? Like JeepsandBoats mentioned, try watching the install video that Bestop has on Youtube....that's all I used to install mine. I would just come in, watch a step or two & then go out & do that step. Their video is awesome!

Sorry I didn't take a picture of mine yet....it's currently opened in sunrider mode

Jeeps_and_Boats Ok... after a yet unresolved leak at the rear corner of both back doors issue, I can comment on some of the other issues folks have addressed during my unfinished run at Bestop.

To the OP. as others have pointed out here, your install is way way off. I suggest taking it all off and starting again. Ditch the paper instructions and follow the youtube video with your finger over the pause button. I bet you will find nothing wrong with the top.

To Putzy, mine was exactly like yours (and really hard to latch) Bestop sent me new bows that were longer. While it still shows rubber it lines and latches up much better now.

I really like the channel slider for the rear window. A quick snap and slide and done.

FWIW....I have a TJ not a JK but that "leading edge" of the top should be flush against the top of the windshield frame...I know this from the wife's JK even though she has Factory ST.

I am sorry but can be no more help than that as I understand the JK Frameless are a little different than the TJs. So don't want to try tell you how to do it

Putzy Could someone post pics of the outside corners where the header meets the channel?

Here is a pic of mine. I feel like it's not actually in the header channel.

Putzy I just installed mine last week and we got heavy rain the other day and my front passenger side was soaking wet. SO today I went to the car wash to see if it would happen again and it did!!! It's coming from the upper corner between the door and the channel from the windshield (I think). It actually sprayed into the jeep and the water almost hit me!! Anyone else having this problem? Soo annoying!!!

Reece I've got the Trektop NX for my 2013 2 Dr. I love it! No flapping and no leaks for the 2 months I ran it. I just put the hard top back on for the Houston summer. The little slit you make in the roll bar pad is completely inconsequential. It's to accommodate the spring bracket which stays on when you replace the hardtop. If you look around at the zippered padding you will find several slits there from the factory, really no big deal. BTW I made the same mistake at first with the tension wire not routed under the screw and outside the door surround. The edges would not stay in the rain channel but as soon as I got that straight it was perfect.

This frame-less top is minimal coverage. It looks great and functions well but it's not a high-dollar top. I think most people are disappointed because they expect too much from it. Either they have never had a soft top at all or they want it to be equal to a premium top. When installed properly, it provides basic weather coverage, versatility, and good looks.

RescueJK08 Just to check back in, I have been unable to get in contact with Bestop about this leaky seam issue. I guess I'll have to call them... I would like this issue addressed soon, since it has been raining frequently in my area these past few days.

I haven't been having any wind noise issues or the top not sitting right. I'm actually quite impressed with it and it doesn't look bad either. Just these leaky zippers...

Another question....when you remove the Safari part of it, do you have to remove all of it, including the hardware? And does anyone know if the hardware has to be removed completely in order to put the hardtop back on?
Having ran the "3 piece combo" since '06....I can tell you this is much better quieter and doesn't flap in the wind......has to do with the amount of adjustment and the support bar over front seats. Plus I zip in 3 windows and I am set for winter or early cool fall days...can extend the open or top down days where if you put the HT back on not gonna pop it off for a 2hour ride.

Yes hardware does need to come off for reinstall of the HT however it is basically door surrounds......I think the clips for tailgate bar would be fine.....Good Luck!!

The Frameless from Bestop on my TJ is as quiet as the factory ST on the wife's JK.

With the design of the frameless, you can run it as a Safari top/ Full top/ add a duster and wrap around jammer and pretty much close it in for summer time use....but still have the "option" to use the sunrider or remove completely from the Safari/ duster/ jammer mode and stow under duster and take it with you without losing any room.

The "safari mode" gives you more protection than the Bikini and is quieter for theJK'S than the bikini top. Until we had the storms this past week was running the 3 piece deal and flipping the top back coming home from work.

have a few Pics but not a lot ------yet...

As for use in the winter...we don't need a HT we do go to Bundy hill in MI and South Haven Frequently through the winter.

Not sure which type Jeep/ JK you have....no cutting of padding was needed on my TJ.

Bottom line the Frameless is better than a Factory ST on a TJ or JK...well haven't had experience with the "premium" but it doesn't have all the "options" I get with a frameless....when the JK needs a new top it will be a Frameless from Bestop.

Sorry no pics with top flipped back.

I so want to just take my hardtop off, but with this wacky weather we've been having in Michigan, it hasn't made sense to take it off yet, so that's why I ordered the Trextop NX. But like I said, now I'm having second thoughts & need to decide soon. I was told if I refuse the shipment when it comes, they will completely refund me when they get it back. Has anyone dealt with Jeep Top Depot before (that's who I purchased it from since they had the lowest price I could find)?

Mine is nearly as quiet as the hard top with no flapping. I like how easy and quick it is to open the top but it would be nice if it were easier to completely remove the top.
I don't have any pics with the windows out yet but I am very satisfied with the top.

It really is a great top.

s.champ They screwed it up. I put mine on about a month ago and it is tight with no leaks. How many trek top NX have they installed? They should have followed the video that is on-line. I love my top !!
06-16-2013 09:18 AM
AMilton Notice how the bracket is lower than the roll bar. If yours is higher than the roll bar it is installed on the wrong side.
06-16-2013 09:02 AM
AMilton Can you take a pic of the brackets the cable springs are hooked to? You would need to remove the side panels to see the brackets.
If the brackets are installed wrong it should be a fairly easy fix.
Flip the top open, remove the side panels, unzip the roll bar padding, swap the brackets, hook the cables to the brackets.
1 wrench or socket and probably about 30 minutes of time is all that's needed.

Hillvol16 The thing that makes me the maddest is the guy looked me in the eye and stated that is how it is supposed to look. Me being a newbie I new something was wrong but I didn't have the knowledge to argue. Thanks to you guys and this forum that is no longer the case

Hillvol16 I will be taking the Jeep back to the place I had it done on Monday and we will see what they say.

Following the included instructions I had mine reversed when I first installed it.
This sounds like the most likely problem. The directions are not what I would call clear. I had to look at the YouTube video several times to see how to do it. I also had the brackets on the wrong sides but after getting it all done it has never leaked a drop.

It should look like the first few inches up front all the way back. You either installed it wrong, or they sewed it wrong. Call them!

matthew87 I say go the quadratec's NX page to get the instructions and start over.

ThermalFZ6 Check the front and rear bows to make sure they are seated right and check the tube that goes across the middle in front of the sound bar. Something is not seated right. I have one of these tops too and it is perfect, no leaks and the top should sit in the channels along the sides like Das_Jeep posted.
