|music_man185||Haha. I may plug them back up in the future, but right now, I don't really have a need for the dome light. I just wanted to make sure my battery wouldn't be dead from having my doors off and not pulling the fuse|

|bryanintowson||Easy fix - replug and enjoy not bashing your head and knees when you get in and out at night!|

So the plugs are disconnected then?
|06-20-2013 01:04 PM|
|music_man185||The switches are still there. So is the wiring harness plug. I can feel them hanging behind the door panel|

You should also check to see if the door jamb switches are even in. My PO took them out and threw them away. I had to replace them. They look like these:
BWD Door Jamb Switch | Product Details | Pep Boys
If it's missing, you'll see a hole in the door jamb on the tub itself.

Buy clips for the outside of the door switches
Pull the fuse
Install a switch inline with the fuse (what I did)

|music_man185||I guess that's just as good as pulling the fuse isn't it?|
|06-20-2013 08:37 AM|
That's why you lights do not come on.

|music_man185||I finally got around to checking my fuse box. #4 is still there, so I felt behind the switch in the door jam, and they are both unhooked|

|Tyr4nt||I have a hard top & full steelies... I pulled the fuse at the beginning of the season and don't plan on putting it back in until the weather starts getting too cold.|

|04Xtj||oh..cool..didnt know that..thanks..i unhooked the door switch..ill plug it back in and yank the fuze..kill that chime..|

|BigCrave||The PO could have also wired in a toggle switch to bypass the door switch. I have one in mine and can still turn the headlight switch to turn on the overhead light.|

That's how it it works in my '04. I have been running without fuse #4 for years. I never put it back in because I like the way everything functions without it. Nice and quiet. I suspect the previous owner of your Jeep did too.

|Water Dog||Pulling the fuse will NOT effect the light switch on the dash. Fuse #4 is to enable/disable the door switch only. Simply pull fuse #4 if the doors are off, and put it back in when the doors are on and you will be golden. Check and see if the fuse that's in there is good.|

|music_man185||Where could I look to see if the button on the jam is unhooked? Just to make sure that's what they did|
|06-15-2013 07:39 PM|
|04Xtj||oh..and my doors stay off for days at a time..no problems with the switch un hooked and the fuze still in the box|
|06-15-2013 07:35 PM|
no..the fuze is not pulled...and you dont have to pull it...
the light still works from the dash switch because the fuze is in..it is fine..
the guy who owned it before you un hooked the door switches..that is why the dash switch still works..
open your door..there is a button sticking out on the jam..(front of jam above door strap)..that is what turns your light on when door is open..they unhooked that...it is fine and will work with dash switch..if you want it to work with doors in the winter...re connect it..very simple to do
its how i run mine..and the light will come on every time you turn the jeep off for about 30 seconds..

|music_man185||would i still be able to turn the light on with the switch if the fuse was pulled?|

|Water Dog||^^^^What he says. Congrats on the Jeep. 1999...good vintage|

It sounds like he fuse is already pulled. I would check the #4 fuse in the fuse panel behind the glove box. If its there, take it out. If it is not, you are good to go.
Congrats on the new jeep. I have a 99 sport and I live it.

Do I Need To Pull The Interior Light Fuse?
I just got my first jeep last night. It is a 99 sahara. My friend has an 06. When he takes his doors off, he says he has to pull his fuse to keep his interior light from staying on. When I took my doors off, my light never came on. If I rotate the dash light knob, the light will come on, but I can turn it off. Do I need to pull my fuse to make sure my battery isn't dead in the morning?
