|Todd H||Passed one a couple of years ago. Hit me in the middle of the night. Sat up all night thinking it was just something I ate. After about six hours of dealing with the incredible pain I finally went to the hospital. Took me a whole day to pass that son of a gun. Thank goodness for pain killers.|

|Ncjeep2005||Kidney stones are terrible and the stent they put in is anywhere near good also. I had one in for a little over a week after surgery and was told to pull it out myself at home! Needless to say pulling out two feet of tubing with no pain meds took six hours feel like I was in a horror flick!|

I tried that gout diet once I was diagnosed with it. My uric acid level never got to normal. What was do funny was my mother in law at the time, kept harassing me about how it was all my fault and my poor food choices. I didn't eat out then, and I worked through lunch every day. She was the one who cooked for our family and we all ate the same thing, and I was the only one with issues. When I asked her tho explain how I ate differently, she had no answer....
I honestly believe some things simply are heredity or damaged caused earlier in life. Not everything can be fixed by diet and or exercise.

This sounds crazy.
I had a job I hated and had stones every year or so.
Changed jobs, professions actually, and haven't had one in 23 years.

|DFW6ER||So this thread has jinxed my wife. She's had stones twice before and is having flank pain and bloody urine today. This also really sucks for me because she's supposed to count laps for me this evening in an annual 5K swim race I'm doing. I'm thinking maybe I should skip the race.|

|Y-Guy||I hear ya, and I don't follow it completely but I did review it and decide to modify some things. I still eat fresh asparagus and some other items on the list, but it had some good tips and advice. My smoker would chase me down if I didn't keep cooking brisket, ribs and pork. Like everything in life it's about moderation, except the water. Good luck!|

|Dillon152||Wow that diet looks brutal... I love eating dead animals! AND my favorite 2 vegetables are mushrooms and asparagus... Which apparently are a no no... This is seriously going to be a huge 180 change for me. thanks for all the info guys... I go back to the urologist on the 31st to get another CT and decide the path forward... At least i got some good pain meds, still rather have a big IPA right now.|

I credit dropping some weight, and sadly beer. But also I really upped my intake of water, I still enjoy a soda but only after I down a couple 16oz bottles of water, I try to drink a minimum of 100oz of water a day.
I also tried to watch out for high fructos corn syrup, which is a lot harder then you may think. I had read this from the mayo clinc diet, "he only carbohydrate known to increase uric acid. It is best to avoid beverages sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup."

If you got your uric acid levels under 6 without cutting down your intake of meat that's terrific. Lots of folks have problems even at high allopurinol doses and don't get there without serious lifestyle changes.

I just had to do a 24hr urine collection test for my stones... Turns out mine are caused from uric acid. Apparently this type is not visible from X-ray, so when my CT scan came back it showed both kidneys littered with stones.
He perscribed me medication, which he says I'll be taking daily for the rest of my life (I'm only 31).... Bummer
