Here in the greater Boston area I get a better than 50% wave return rate. I usually get blown off by tj and yj drivers but its fine. It's their loss. I first learned of the jeep wave back in the late 90's when my cousin bought his 89 yj.

So if you see my '14 Sahara around Boston just wave. It won't kill you I promise
If I'm ever in Boston I'll give you a super wave to make up for my fellow YJer's

Because if they didn't this would be a forum full of nothing but senseless wave threads.
Hence the official wave thread.

Guns Up-USMC My new girlfriend loves it as well.First time in the Jeep she saw me waving at them and figured I knew them.So I told her about the Jeep wave and know she rolls down the windows and waves at other Jeeps.

Funniest one was another Jeep was flipping off a car for what ever reason and cursing them out.As we are passing by them on the street my girlfriend rolls down the windows I slow down to hear the commotion and the fellow Jeeper in the middle of cursing some one out smiles and waves back then continues pummeling insults at another driver.

Good times.

bluedevil1 The first Wrangler I bought was a 93 from a Jeep dealer in Tacoma. My salesman was obviously a veteran on the crew. He spent 15 minutes talking about the Wave, and how important it was that buyers of the new one with the "square headlights" continue the tradition. Thought he was a bit over the top at the time, but I've been doing it ever since!

flyfishnevada Around here, everyone waves. It's kind of annoying. I live in a small rural valley and it's like a code or something. And it's pretty common to wave once you've left pavement. Out fishing, hunting, wheeling, almost everyone waves. Jeeps on the highway...not so much.

My best wave was when I pulled up across an intersection from a YJ on 37's, full roll cage, no top or door. As we crossed, I waved and the dude didn't expect it. I he kind of jumped and then did a quick wave as we passed. He looked shocked to get a wave from a then nearly stock JK.

chucky cheese Saw a guy in a topless jeep who's toupe' was waving. Does that count. I gave him a thumbs up and he gave me a rug up.

BLK2012 911 owners used to wave all the time, not sure if they do it now though.

Between the bike and the Jeep I've been waving since I was 17 years old, which is too many years to talk about.

How cool is that?

Lerker I don't wave... at all. Think it's dumb. Most times, others don't wave at me, but sometimes they do, and get nothing back from me.

And also: my jeep is muddy. Very muddy.

I've owned Jeeps for a while, and been a part of the culture, but the whole wave thing... I guess I'm just not in to it.

Resist I felt pretty good today after a hot Blonde in a black JKU waved back, when initiated the wave.

MyWhiteRubi I always wave it's a habit I can't catch myself no matter what I'm driving or riding in. I wish more of the JK'ers knew about the wave. I think I always get waves back from older jeepers but the JK'ers are hit and miss.

InfoJunkie I missed doing the wave for the years I didn't have a Jeep... It feels good to be back in the saddle again and I'm glad people still wave. The kids and my friends and family get a kick out of it too.

Old Dogger I also did it when I owned my Harley. (Harley riders wave to each other).
Also during my Corvette ownership, (they also wave to each other).
So it's, not just isolated to Wrangler Owners!!

It's just acknowledging, a common interest of Ownership, but in a nice friendly way..........

ATG I felt foolish at first, too. I realized the other day that I am disappointed how quickly it gets dark because I can't wave to other Jeeps in the dark. I don't know why, but it is fun.

My wife still makes fun of me, waving obnoxiously to parked and empty Jeeps. One day, someone will be sitting in one of those parked Jeeps and she will be mortified.

Jeep Wave Contagious?

When I first got my Jeep, I told my wife about the Jeep wave and felt kinda foolish at first waving to other Jeeps with her in the car and having probably only 40% wave back. I figured she was always thinking it was kind of silly.

JMO69 I usually only wave at CJ,YJ,Tj's not the Cherokee SUV types. I would wave back at them if they waved. Usually only CJ,YJ, and TJ's wave to me though.

Rock Kicker Going to look at a 2011 JKU this afternoon. Purchase or not, I'll have to school the dealer on the Wave (not a Jeep dealer).

justin_nj This morning I was driving my daughter and her friend to school. My daughter's friend's dad has a JKU. So out of nowhere, she started talking about the jeep wave and that her dad waves to other jeeps also. So now they are on the hunt for other jeeps and of course we pass 2 and get 2 waves!

I was driving around town several months ago when I see a U-haul truck coming the opposite way. I don't generally look at drivers of non-Jeeps but I couldn't help but see him vigorously waiving at me. I just figured he was a friendly guy, new in town so I waved back. As he passed by I noticed he was pulling a trailer with a nice looking black JKU on it.

So ya, I guess it does become a habit.
I was that guy a few weeks ago when I had to tow my jeep home from the mountains with a uhaul. Naturally I only spotted a handful of fairly stock jeeps on the way down while actually driving my jeep. On the way home in the van, towing my jeep? Lots of built, beautiful rigs to wave vigorously at from inside the van....
