|XDR||4.0 can reuse mounts with bolt in mounts or weld in. 2.5 require weld in mounts. I did my swap into a 2.5 since the cost difference between the two couldn't make up the price point.|

|JeepersDave||The location of the radiator is the same between the 2.5 and 4.0. The real difference is the motor mounts which are about 5 1/2" farther forward on the 4.0. In the case of a V8 swap it doesn't matter since the mounts have to come out anyway|

|Evpjr||The Engine compartment in the 4.0L and the 2.5L are the same, but the location of the radiator, maybe set a little further back so as to accommodate the shorter engine block and allowing the fan to bring more air flow through it.|

Physical Differences Between TJ Engine Compartments
If I wanted to drop a V8 (& auto tranny) into a 1997-1999 TJ, should there be a preference as to whether the TJ was originally a 2.5L or a 4.0L?
Is there a difference in the engine compartment, or with the firewall? Or are they pretty much identical, when it comes to the areas under the hood and body?
