my AEV bumper is sitting in Scottsdale AZ, and my planned trip there is in March to visit my friend and put on my bumper, work on his car and watch a couple of ball games.

1) tow strap

Pricey, but Vikingoffroad.com has excellent straps and other recovery gear.

Also, Molle Tactical Gear Molle-Guy Home for everything molle. He WAS a local NM guy, but had to move to Washington state for work. That said, Jeff is a great guy and fellow Jeeper.

Eric G As far as recovery kits go, both warn and ARB have kits that may meet your needs. The warn kit that I got some time ago included a snatch block, tree protector (10 ft nylon strap), 10 ft chain, d-ring shackle, and a heavy duty nylon bag to carry it all in. The bag has enough room to fit all of that plus my 25 ft nylon strap and winch remote and an extra pair of gloves.

One of these kits is a must have in my opinion.

so what are the basic to have? I do not plan to lift (well maybe a small lift and 33, maybe 35, MPG important) the Jeep, my goal with this is to build a expedition Jeep that I can do some traveling with and still have fun off road.

So I guess I would like you input on what I should do to the Jeep and what I should have with me.

1) CB (all ready have one, but will get a Cobra 75 & firestick)
2) hi lift jack
3) tow strap (recovery gear)
4) fire extinguisher
5) ???

Do I need to reenforce the front axles?

Long term, around Christmas will get some bumpers, maybe a winch.
AEV rear bumper and maybe front bumper.

Hello NMBruce,
I have the S-pod switch panel (6 lighted switches). A very nice setup with 40 amp relays so it can power just about anything you want to hook up to it. I'm going to wire my hardtop defroster and rear wiper to the switches. You will like the look of the switch mount for sure.

Cool man, cant wait to see it on your rig! I am hopping get rest myself before Moab in Oct. I already have the main / transf skid, ordering the Oil pan and trans next. EVO is a good shop not the cheapest but one of the best Imo. Mel R&D's every part he makes and its all trail proven before it gets sold. Cant ask for much more, he builds it, tests it, breaks it, then makes it better before EVO sells it. Proven American made product.

Commandocon I just got off the phone with EVO and bought the ProTek Kit for my auto trans. The tech mentioned the oilpan gasket is rtv and most do not leak but not all,the autotrans bolts aren't touched, the cross member bolts are replaced but he said u can use the factory ones if they aren't damaged like some are from bashing on rocks. He recommends doing an oil change at time of installation and since your already there take the oil pan down, get it all cleaned up,put a fresh rtv gasket on and from doing ones in the past theres usually a magnet at the bottom of the pan collecting metal shavings that i will clean out since after the armor is put on i will hate to have to take it all off when i was just there. It comes finished with powdercoat. I also got a 10% military veteran discount.

and the EVO MFG ProTek JK Exhaust Skid EVO: Bumper/Armor/Skids, ProTek Exhaust & Tranny Cross-member Skid

Cost is a little more, but i like the setup better

Big-T I would guess to say if you are not in a hurry they will Powder-coat them any color you want. But you could take any Skids or metal item to the local PC shop and get a specialized color. I dig the black stuff, easy to touch up after some trail damage so it don't get rusty.

wat3rdog Those look nice. Too bad they only come in black. The red looks sweet
