Has anyone installed the flap down eye bolt latches that are used on some trailers or boats? I think this would work great on the rear area on the top by the window. However, I'm not sure if drilling would spiderweb crack the top or not. If not it sure would be handy instead of running hooks or rope through the window.

This is a bit off topic, but I just replaced my Harbor Freight bicycle hoists that I was using for kayaks with Harken's. I have to say I'm really impressed at the ease of the Harkens, not so impressed with the price. You get what you pay for.

I was planning to do something like this and was talked out of it... if you do it wrong a hardtop isn't cheap to replace when it crashes to the floor. I'm going to buy the Harken instead for $129.

I mounted mine in the corners in the front, if you look there seems to notch for them to rest in. The back ones are just next the hinge for the rear glass in the back.

After looking at many different setups I have decided on how I'm going to build my own hoist. What I have yet to figure out is where exactly to put the ratcheting strap hooks. I am afraid that they will slide around and my hardtop will fall on the ground. Can someone please post pictures of exactly where they hook the hooks at on the hardtop?
