Funny you should say that, and others agree!

I have the tail light guards and a Teraflex antenna mount. All I had to do was get a couple longer screws from the hardware store. Problem solved!

gsellars Mainly because my dad owns half the jeep and doesn't want to put holes in it. It is a cherry TJ so I understand and rather not hear him bitch about it

Jerry Bransford Why would anyone be afraid to put another hole into the galvanized tub? The factory put enough in, a few more won't hurt. Dab some paint around the hole's raw edge if you want.

gsellars Suppose I could mount it directly to the tire carrier? I know about the teraflex ones but I don't want to drill a hole in my tub

Though my CB antenna hasn't been mounted here in years, this location on the spare tire holder bracket works pretty well. That is my spare tire on the left.

That is just a short piece of scrap stainless steel bolted to the spare tire carrier with a hole drilled into it to hold the antenna mount. There has to be a bare metal connection between that piece of stainless steel and the mount so grind off the powder coating & make sure the whole spare tire carrier is well grounded with some woven ground strap like you can buy from radio shack. Plain wire doesn't work well for providing the type of ground an antenna mount requires.

A very good (better) mount is the kind you can buy from www.teraflex.biz that mounts under the tail light.

NoBoat0429 I put the tailight guards on and they are solid. I would disagree that they dont offer protection. I drilled into the spare tire mount and problem solved. What I will say is the tailight antanae mount bracket sucks, it will actually flex the rear quarter panel, unless you use a really light anntanae, and even the 3 foot firefly will wobble. Its too close to put a spring on to help with the flex.

I would keep the CB antenna mounted where it is and return the tail light guards for the following two reasons. The first reason is tail light guards don't protect your tail lights, they will bend/break the first time you do anything that would break the tail lights anyway. Not to mention tail light guards cost more than replacement tail lights do. The second reason is tail light guards usually/eventually cause an electrical grounding problem with the tail lights which causes the tail light to stop working properly.

blkrubi88 Drill a hole in the top of your spare tire mount, it's free.
