Thanks! I think I have it now! Got stainless steel bolts for the hi lift and have two of the lipless can adapters on order.

The Or Fab unit wasn't real easy to install, a very small angle drill sure helps, and I made some drill bushings to put into the bracket holes to make sure the holes I drilled were in the centers. I'm happy with mine .
I ordered ( not in stock.. ) mine thru Northridge , I called Quadratec but they for some reason failed to find the part number ( ??? !!!! ) so after I waited a couple weeks they called and said they had one in stock.....It figures.
I ended up waiting about 6 weeks or so.... Thats OK, It's American Made, I'll wait for that... Now if I just had the "tramp stamp" to cover up the ugly vent .....
You might also look at the units from HANSON....

Rats! I was afraid the $80 bucks was for just ONE adapter!!! Sheesh! Gold they better be!!

So for me, it would now be a choice between the rotopax version and the non can version. I'd still consider the Teraflex, but think they need to drop the price to around $400 for just the hinge.
No problem. I had the same dilemma, except I was also considering the genright tire carrier. I ended up going with the or fab because it is the only one of the three that actually reinforces the area of the body where the hinge is to safely hold more weight. Good luck with your decision

kbwwolf I was on the verge of buying the OR-FAB, but then this came out...there are pros and cons of both, but thought I'd throw it out there:

suicideking I'm considering this carrier. Does the rotopax version give you more clearance? Their webpage is unclear.

I'm considering the OR fab or Teraflex. This one looks nicer, but clearance is a concern, though I would like a rotopax option.

MudRunner To mount the hi lift you need two 3/8 x 1 1/2 bolts

Thanks! Yeah I did some surfing and saw the lipless conversion brackets. Made me happy! Hopefully they still make them. That's my plan at the moment. The carrier seems rock solid!

xjcj5jku FINALLY got the OR Fab tire carrier in and installed by 4 Wheel Parts. Ordered it April 4, came in last week, installed today! Only took TEN WEEKS!!!! So if you are thinking along these lines... PLAN WAY AHEAD!! Anyway, install looks good... I ordered the one set up for Jerry Cans cuz I have a really nice gas and blue water can I bought years ago from Garrett Wade, used them lots on my old CJ. BUT, as I see it, looks like you need Jerry Cans with a lip to catch on the lower bracket (mine don't have a lip :-(). Also looks like no hardware to attach the hi lift. Just have my phone for Internet at home so can't look things up much.
Talk to me Brothers and Sisters... What Jerry cans do you use on the OR Fab tire carrier and how do you attach the hi lift to it??

THANKS!!

Chongosean Sorry to hear about the delays. I know the 4WP here in town has them last time I checked. Has anyone had any problems with the actual install and the drilling into the body?

xjcj5jku Tire carrier still not here. Ordered from 4 wheel Parts first week of April! Now they're saying next week... Utah trip come and gone. Anybody else had this kind of delay from OR Fab or 4 wheel parts? Not happy

Burley1 I have been looking at the same thing and the cheapest I've found is amazon. $510 and supposedly in stock. Free two day shipping with Prime. I stripped the lower stud out of my factory carrier so now I'm spare less till I can save enough for this.

amarillojeepguy Cool I'll have to look around to c who has it in stock...vacation not too far off

rogueleader The OR Fab tire carrier is very well designed and when properly mounted, will not sag, and closes easily. When closed, there is no rattle as the latch is adjustable to allow the rack to be snugged down.

MudRunner I run the Rotopax version and I love it. I got mine for ~$580. It's very sturdy, no squeaks or rattles. I have even sat on it while it was swung out (an additional 150 lbs) and it held me fine, even though it was already holding 6 gallons of gas, a hi-lift, and my 100 lb spare tire. So probably around close to 280 lbs on it and no problems. I haven't had any problems with it sticking out a bit either on the trail since it pushes the spare tire up about 5 inches. Love it!

HanJ3 i like it, bit pricey compared to other tire carriers tho.
i need to save up for this and gobi rack...

I have one on order, hope it gets here soon... Ordered through 4 wheel parts. They appear to fab them as they get orders... Going on 6 weeks since I ordered it. From reading the threads it looks like a good unit. Didn't want the whole heavy bumper thing, just carrier for tire, cans and hi lift.
