I too have a new "project" in my 95YJ. I love this jeep even with it's flaws. I see them as opportunities for improvement. I'm new to jeeps but not to working on 4WDs. I've already dug in on her and found many problems from the PO. Best of luck in your new ride.

Sounds like you are well on your way. As far as your bumper is concerned, I would be sure that it ties into the frame for strength, not only for the spare tire mount, but also because you plan on using a winch mount in your receiver. That can be a lot of stress. An angle bracket that ties the bumper mount bolts into the frame is good, and be sure to use grade 8 bolts. I had a bumper once that literally got ripped from the mounting brackets (the bolts held) so be sure it's strong!

glad to have ya here.......I did a little time in 04/05 in cedar 2 and mosul. the fear bumper attaches to a bracket.....that bolts to the frame. my bracket needs replaced, but its a 87 that does quite a bit of towing as well. the bracket piece is beginning to twist. they do sell added bolt in ( I think ) braces for these bracket pieces if you think you will need it.
As far as doing your own custom fab work......would love to see what you come out with. Look around and figure out what all you want/need/desire in a rear bumper and go for it !!!!
many questions can be answered on here just by running a little search, I did not know hardly anything when I got on this forum a year or 2 ago.

|western196611||Actually I just got mine running last Friday. Someone put a ground along with a hot wire on the starter cylinoid. I guess... bad for them and good for me. They could never get it running after a motor swap. The ground wire kept it from firing.|

|Reveen||Cool. I can't wait to get some seat time in mine. I am no expert, but the '95 YJ is friggen awesome, in my opinion. Last year for the AMC 4.0, first year for the galvanized frame, and last year for a nice, simple interior. I have never been a fan of a modern vehicle's ridiculous luxeries.|

Hello, fellow Wrangler owners.
I am both new to the forum, and new to the Jeep world. I just purchased my first Jeep, a 1995 Wrangler. I am excited to get into the world of Jeep ownership, modification, and enjoyment! I have NO experience with Jeeps, and little experience with 4WD vehicles in general. I am a technician for a manufacturer/service provider with gov't contracts overseas. I am currently in Iraq, and look forward to getting home to my new Wrangler in a few months.
I plan on outfitting my vehicle with Metalcloak front and rear fenders/flares, in order to get better coverage for my tires and eliminate the body lift the Jeep came with. It seems that everyone agrees that Metalcloak is the best, if you can afford it. Luckily, i can, so that's where i'm headed for those items.
My main question at this point is about a rear bumper unit. It seems no one makes a rear bumper/tire carrier that gets a favorable ratio of positive to negative reviews. I want to avoid as much host vehicle modification as possible, so that rules out a tub-mounted, swing out unit. Also, i plan on running the Warn 9.5cti-s in a multi-mount carrier. I like the versatility of the design, and have some experience with the same winch on the vehicles i service. So, i need a bumper-mounted, swing out tire carrier that will also clear the winch when it is mounted in the rear receiver.
According to the guy i bought my vehicle from, the rear bumper is a custom job. There is an image in my Jeep Profile. I want yalls opinion on whether or not you think it looks strong enough to support the use i intend to employ. It does not appear to be tied to the frame rails running on either side of the fuel tank. I have the resources to fabricate a swing-out tire carrier, and would like some feedback on whether or not i should modify the bumper itself first.
Sorry for such a lengthly first post, but i want to be as thorough as possible so the first response isn't "hey, dummy, we need more details".
Oh yeah. My intended use for the vehicle is light off-road duty. GA state trails, etc. No rock crawling or mud-bogging. The ratio of road to off-road will most likely be 70-30.
