|jeepermatt||Cool...just ordered the 4.88's today .throttle body spacer should be by friday|

Put a throttle body spacer and drop the gearing in the diffs to 4.88, I've known a few people who swapped a 4 for a 6 and said the time/money wasn't worth the power gains.
I had a 94 with a 2.5 and loved it. Decent power after I re-geared and good mileage. I could do the whole Rubicon on one tank of gas while my buddies with 6 cyl's had to carry extra gas.

|Cashcrazy||You might be better off cost wise selling your jeep and getting one with the 4.2.|

The 87-91 YJ's came with an ECM. Its mounted on the back side of the driver's inner fender, down below the coolant tank.
If you switch to this drivetrain, you can do a nutter bypass, but you need the PCM from the donor vehicle. The one from yours isn't compatible. And as you thought, you will lose the use of your gauges.
Seems to me like a lot of work to go back in technology. Fuel injection is much better than a carburetor any day of the week, and although the older YJ has a 4.2L motor, it doesn't compare with the horsepower and torque of the newer smaller 4.0L.

|Mbclark||I know in CA we can't go backwards in years for smog reasons, not sure how FL is with that. I know I would stick with Fuel injection if possible. If you can go with the older 6 your going to have to go bare bones like a old CJ.|

It's his Zombie Apocalypse vehicle!
Go for it!

|jeepermatt||Sorry...yes its a yj...i wanted a carburetor instead of fuel injection...wanted to eliminate most sensors|

|Mbclark||I'm assuming you meant 88 YJ not CJ. It'll be a big project and a computer from a 87-90 will most likely be needed. Why would you consider going backwards in technology instead of a 4.0?|

88 6cyl into 92yj?
I have a opportunity to buy a straight 6,trans,and transfer out of a 88 cj.what do i need to know about putting this into my 92 yj? I am guessing i can eliminate the ecm if i do this, but will my guages and fuel sending unit work?
