I chose by tire price. Thats how i ended up with goodyear duratrac 33x12.5-15LT on cragar 15x8 soft 8 steel rims. But i had to grind the calipers a bit.
Wheel/tire weight is kind of a big deal on the road. You would get better acceleration and better fuel milage with lighter wheels/tires. If you have the money i'd really go with an aluminum rim. Probably a 16 or 17. But......the price difference will probably cost more than the fuel you saved. And 15x8 inch rims look really cool with the duratrac 33x12.5s. It also gives you more sidewall when you air down to 10 psi.

Just an update. Went with the 305/70r16 Duratracs on the 16x8 Pro Comps and love it.
I did notice a little bit of power lacking going up a mountain, but nothing too bad. Just some higher rpms. Only rubbed once and that was just testing out full flex.
I do have a few questions, but I'll save them for another post. Thanks again for the help

Just placed my order for the 7069's. It's definitely the look I wanted, just costs a bit more in the long run for tires.
Got them for 120 ea, + a $25 discount for Amazon screwing up the 1st order, and free standard shipping. 580 total, not bad.
The tires on the otherhand will be 275 ea ($50 more than the lower 48, because that's just how Alaska rolls) for 305/70r16 Duratrecs. With the mounting and balancing, and moving the sensors over -- 1456.80. Grand total of 2036.80....

It just feels like if I'm already shelling out 600+ on wheels that I should get what I want, and not have to alter them out of the box. I could really just paint the stock rims I have now if it came to that

Again, thanks for the input - very much appreciated. The limited selection on Amazon and lack of other free shippers is getting irritating, however...
Top choice so far are 16x8 Pro Comp 7069s.
But I was hoping for 15s instead, so I could put 33x12.5 duratracs on them. Highest I could go on a 16x8 without a lift, as far as I know, is 305/70r16 (about 32.8x12), unless any of you guys think I could squeeze 315/75r16s on - almost a 35" tire. Probably too much. Either way, tires on 16" rims cost about $50 more, per tire.
There's a few 15's I'm looking at but can't find anything all black, which is what I want. Those Level 8's are nice but the red throws me a bit and they're polished, not matte.
Hate to settle, but I'm losing my patience... Summer's almost over!

My only issue with 15" wheels on JK's is that they weren't engineered with 15" wheels in mind (supported by the fact that, depending on the wheel, people have had to modify their calipers to make them fit).
Three issues concern me with fitting 15" wheels.
1. You may have to modify the caliper or wheel to make them fit. Why risk the designed functionality/safety of either one by removing material?
2. Reduced air flow around the brake assembly means that the brakes will run hotter.
3. Reduced area around the brake assembly means that when you go through messy situations there is less area for debris to clear out (also less are for debris to get in though).

|Haranux||It's hats to beat the black rock try the alloys may save a little on shipping 15s don't handle in the curves as well as 17s but they ride better and wont let rims damage as much since u have more rubber to cushion !|

I appreciate it. A local dealership told me if i'm upgrading I should go to 17s or bigger - and actually said they don't recommend 15s. But I know that's what a lot of folks here use.
I actually ordered a set of Black Rock D windows, 15x8, only to find out a month later that they won't ship to Alaska... so after that headache I'm in search of something else. Have to go thru Amazon because they offer free shipping so my choices are limited. Any recommendations?

15" wheels and 33/12.50 Duratracs were made in heaven for a Jeep.
The Duratracs are amazing in snow and wet weather.
You will save tons of money with the 15" as tires are a good bit cheaper.
I think the 15" with more sidewall ride smoother as well. They may not handle the curves as well but they ride much smoother.
Tire options dont matter. When you said Alaska the Duratracs are the one to get.

What size wheels to get for highway?
I've been debating on what wheels to get for some time now, and somewhere along the line I set my mind on 15's. I don't know why - I just like the look of more rubber than wheel.
But I want opinions - what size would be best for my situation? I don't offroad - with the exception of taking her down a little trail to go fishing occasionally. I don't plan to lift it at all, and want to go with 33s. I do mostly city/highway driving, sometimes long trips, and live in Alaska - so there's a lot of snow, ice, hills, etc. - if that matters.
Would larger wheels benefit me more than smaller? 15s are cheaper, but there's a larger selection of 18's.
