Yea you're over 500 miles north of me, I guess you are a "northern southerner"....

When I bought my daughters car from a seller on CL I offered about 15% less than they were asking and immediately they accepted. Since there really wasn't any negotiating, I was disappointed I didn't offer less.

I feel negotiating is the way to go. When I sell a vehicle, I always ask $500-$1000 more than I really want, that way when they offer me $1000 less than the asking price, I still get what I actually wanted.

In most states, especially with any sort of inspection, you cannot legally sell a vehicle with a broken windshield.
Again despite what most are saying, there's always those that believe what they have is gold and what you have is garbage.

n00g7 Lol... you send them an email, or call, and say 7500. You don't waste their time to lowball. But you tell them to give you a call back if they come down on the price and you'll check it out.

If they're willing to deal they call you back, you show up, test it, and take it for 8250 out the door. Done deal. Offering low is only a dick move if you pretend you're going to buy it for the full price while wasting their time and then throw out the low ball.

All Terrain JK Here in Michigan if I want to sell something for a $1000 I'll advertise for $1250 or $1300. Conversely if I'm buying and it's $1250 I'll expect to purchase at around $1000. Some buyers will ask your bottom dollar over the phone without even looking at the item.
Two weeks ago my son and I drove two hours one way to look at an 03 tub. The asking price on CL was $600. It's from GA and spotless, a rare find here. The CL post was 10 days old so after inspecting I offered him $450. He countered $500 and we agreed on $475. I had and would've paid $600. It's probably worth at least $900 but he was happy to have the money and me the tub.

LOL we barter as well and there is obviously a degree of haggling that occurs there as each person decides the worth of their wares. That is pretty funny about the skunk.

I understand this point as well. If I feel I am getting a good deal, I do not even try negotiating. Around here people always place ads high to leave room for negotiation. Knowing that for larger items around here gives you an edge over an outsider. If you place you items for sale at a high price, sometimes people will not negotiate and the seller wins. Terry J Here in Memphis and surrounding areas haggling is a way of life as well. Ive never bought something i didnt haggle on. Or sold something for that matter. Nothing offensive about it. Ive been offered some really low prices on my things and all i do is say nope cant do it. If they dont want to go up then im sure someone out there will. No skin off my back.

Knok46 There is a big difference between negotiating and low balling. Before you even consider bringing down someone's price make sure you seen and test drive the vehicle. Is best to struck a relationship with seller. Prior to changing there price.

sinbob I looked for over a year for my jeep. Knew just what I wanted a Rubicon with an I6 and 6sp which meant an 05 or 06.
I found a later model 06 with 103k on it....book was 23k, I walked out the door with it at 17k, with new 35's and a new soft top.
Since then I have probly sunk another 10k into it...lift, gears, bumpers, winch, steering, armor....etc, etc,etc.

JEEP = just empty every pocket

Maybe I'm strange. I do it to private sellers as well. I went with my buddy to get a four wheeler from a private party and he negotiated them down $100 and I negotiated them down another $400 while he test rode it.

Huh? What part of the deep south are you from? Here in Ga, haggling is a way of life when buying from private sellers.

It seems to be more prevalent and even expected in other areas or cultures (middle east, Latin American especially). But where I grew up its just assumed the person selling something knows its worth and has put thought into the price, and to offer him something less is considered a slight. There are obviously exceptions to every rule though.

Personally I hate haggling and always get a chuckle at peoples' reactions when they are buying something from me on CL where I'm at now (the big city yeee haw lol) and they try to offer me less and I just give them a stone faced 'no' with no further explanation.

You're spending $1,200 right from the start on tires and glass.
Keep in mind Jeeps have their own pricing. If the seller isn't willing to come down on price, walk away.
I wouldn't even consider buying any coastal Jeeps, they'll be rust buckets.
Get dirty and look it over from top to bottom. The last thing you want is an $8500 project.
$8k-9k for an '02, it'd had better be flawless.
If they're wanting to sell, they'll take the cash and run.

kyle32 asking 9 and offering 7.5 is a little rude imo.. be it wort 7.5 in your area or not

in my area that is about 10k(maybe more with the lift) so they took off a little bit for the windshild and tires.. 9k isnt bad if it rides nice and you like it offer 8.5 if he takes it good.. if not then walk i have been looking for a year.. think i finely found the "one" test drove it other day and going to test drive it agen and start talking numbers soon

No a/c. brand new 235/75/15 bfg at/ko tires with less then 1500 miles on them. I would let it go for $6750 cash. edit- it comes with 2 sets of windows, the bestop sliders and the factory soft plastic windows as well as a brand new set of black fender flares to replace the gray ones that i have not had time to install
