Getnoff All I can say is...how many times have you seen a JKU high centered on the trail?! Many. If you need the room, grab a U, if you want a radical off road rig, JK. Not that I haven't seen some great 4 door set ups.

No back seat required in michigan.

I love my 2 door shorty.
This is exactly why I waited over 20 years to get a Jeep....had to wait for my kids to move out so we could get a 2 door, but it was definitely worth the wait I personally don't like the looks of the 4 doors

No sir, we most certainly do not. No secret there. Though I will say that there are some out there that do. For shame, no shame.

BigManAndy Got the Jeep on a Thursday and on Saturday it was out. Hasn't been back in since. I got plenty of storage back there if I need it.

mcgee10 I removed the rear seat in my 2dr the day I got it. It will only go back in it when I sell it.
This will only turn into a pissing match 2dr vs 4 dr thread. Those of us with 2dr will never buy a 4 dr. I think the 4dr were built to match the hummer, suburban, bus crowd. They build both so we can decide what we want or need.

So why not add 24 inches to the 2dr JK's length , maybe also 12 inches to the JKU as well? have your say.

I'll let you in on a secret.

Us JK owners are anti-social, no friend having, loner, FTW types.

So we don't want 2 adults and cargo in our rears.

So you probably want the JKU owners. They are nice and like to be sociable. Hell they may actually have more than one friend or these things they call "children."

(FWIW, I had two of those, but they ran off, so I don't buy extra doors for 'em now.)

Seriously though, Jeep will make and sell two door short wheel base Jeeps until they are no longer profitable. Making them longer than they are now by 12 or 24 inches cuts into capability that some of their buyers cherish and that they market heavily. It's purpose built. You make it longer and that purpose fades. It's a trade off.

JeeperJake If I can't get more stuff into my JK, I'm taking too much stuff.

If I really need to do that, M100s are a JOY!!!

marslim I also am very happy with my two door, if I needed more space I would get the 4 door not an extended 2 door anyways... Now a pickup version would have me interested

For me the issue is when i have a bunch of cute girls that wanna go wheeling. And i go wheeling with a big cooler and then the purses and then of course the garbage that i dont want to leave in nature........

of course i just dont take em with....lol

michiganadam The 4 door already has about as much space as any other suv ive been in, excluding the real monsters like the expedition. If a 4 door doesnt have enough room then ....

The 2 door does need more room though. But they did that for rock climbing and crazy steep climbing. The 2 door fills a niche where it has destroyed all competition. Without it, the jeep as we know it would die. Look at the original jeeps. Look at the 2 door.

Infact look at the available 2 seater sports cars. No cargo room. Atleast we have a back seat.

What the op wants is an lj, aka a ford bronco. Its too bad there wasnt an unlimited 2 door jk, because i liked the lj. looks like a 2 door bronco though...lol.

X2, Yes, for old Coots like me, a 2 door is all that is needed.
I just wish that my Arthritis would ease up, so getting into it wouldn't be so difficult, boy does it ever hurt!
Just maybe, Obama will free up some more stimulus money, to buy me a lift for Christmas.

Ctstone21 The Jeep 6 Pack concept is a longer JKU. It's the part behind the door on a JK mounted to the back behind the door on a JKU.
06-25-2013 10:32 AM
TOK I have no use for a longer 2 door. I have a crew cab pickup for a family cruiser. I don't know the percentage of familes with kids and only 1 car, but it has to be low.

I think the TJ Unlimited bombed, don't see Jeep making a second run at that layout.
06-25-2013 10:29 AM
JeepCourtney3700 I was never a fan of the LJ's (2dr TJ's with stretched wheelbases and called unlimiteds).

I really, really like my 2 door JK. The long wheelbase is nice and there's a business case for it but the two door Wrangler is a classic and something that I have always wanted since I was in my mid teens.
06-25-2013 10:28 AM
Lbear I don't think this is an either/or proposition. I was surprised how much stuff I could get in my JK with the back seat out, but a few extra inches would be great too. It would give more access room for occasional passengers and allow reasonable storage behind the back seat- all without serious effect to entry and departure angles or appearance. A slightly longer wheelbase would also reduce the hobby horsing. Chrysler has been enlarging the Jeep over time so a little more stretch in the JK would be welcomed by some of us- and hated by the die-hards. I didn't want or need 4 doors but a happy medium would be a skosh more room in the back of the JK. It would also quiet the "uptown girl" a bit over me selling the Murano for the Jeep. She keeps telling me size matters!
06-25-2013 10:21 AM
legitposter Most 2 door vehicles are the same size as the 4 door - but with only 2 doors. The wrangler is a rare breed in that the 2 door is so much smaller than the 4 door.

The 4 door is much better looking and I really believe if Jeep lengthened the 2 door to match the 4 door then the 2 door would sell like hot cakes!

Still, the current 2door's square boxy build is pure off-road. I can't imagine taking my 4door off-road instead of my wife's 2door. It's a huge difference in favor of the 2 door.

Final verdict? Make the regular 2door the same size as the 4door and offer a 2door version with the current smaller size and give this the "MOAB" edition label. Damn I'm good.

You're welcome Chrysler.

Numbercruncher The two door model defines what a Jeep Wrangler is all about. Short wheel base for tight maneuvering off road. If you need a bigger vehicle get it but making a JK bigger will spoil what it is meant for. I don't see why the current unlimited won't meet the needs of someone who wants a bigger Wrangler. That is exactly what that vehicle is.

CavCop It might be neat to see a longer wheel based 2dr CJ-8 Scrambler type design every 2 years in limited numbers.

SevenGreen I like my JKR, too. For me 2 doors are OK, although few times a month my YELLOW D goes fully packed by passengers...sometimes even with their sport gear ( due to placed in their own hands) ... Not a problem - I have my own captain chair )))

This I too saw as an added bonus to the "shorty" JK. The JK fits in my garage with enough room to spare for mountain bikes, snowblower, lawn mower and other guy stuff.
06-25-2013 06:40 AM
Abnormal-JK 2 door as well... best wheelbase out there... back seat is in the basement...

Ever notice... when 3-4 Jeepers go anywhere... they take 3-4 Jeeps.... no need for passenger room other than a copilot...

I like my shorty....short. For the love of man, If they don't like it get something else...don't try to change something like a 2 door jk. There are tons of other options, first option would be a JKU.

JEEPDON Ford Expedition??????

whiteyjfm I like our 2 door too. A small amount of extra cargo space would have been nice. We don't have children and I am not buying a Jeep to entertain my friends. If they want to tag along, they can buy their own Jeep. Two of them had done it.

Barmanvarn I dislike the lack of room in my 2 door. That being said the pros ( for me) greatly outweigh the cons. I personally have no need to fit 4 people AND gear.

If it does come to that i can pull a small trailer, get a cargo rack......lots of options.

I prefer my short wheel base and wouldn't trade it for anything.
