I just bought new bushings (PVC) and not rubber. About $15 I think, special order. Also bought a pickle fork to get the trackbar off. Def. worth the $10 for it. The old ones were egged out and new ones cured my DW.

After a couple of DW incidents my steering column had to be repaired (and things around it) because the shaking had broken factory welds.
Not to mention my jeep was nearly impossible to stop or control during a DW strike.

|PStov98TJ||You can do this stuff yourself. Go get some tools, they'll be cheaper than labor costs, and do it yourself. I'm only 20 and I do 99% of all the work done on my jeep. And no my dad isn't some master mechanic (to be honest, he's not much of one at all). Just do some research, look at write-ups, and watch videos and have a little faith in yourself.|

Figured it out....
Well let's see where to begin. Well on the bright side we figured it out, the downside is apparently the guy that I bought the jeep from just rigged the steering system to, and I quote, "work." The tie rod, which is from a RAM truck we believe was mounted to the same spot the drag link is because it was too long to fit where it was actually supposed to go. Then the steering stabilizer was welded, I mean WELDED to the drag link because there was nowhere to bolt it in. Now I'm no expert on vehicle repairs, but I'm pretty sure that if the part is the correct part then it should fit where it's supposed to fit. Sorry about the rant...I'm just a little angry that I bought this jeep from an authorized dealer and he ensured that he had the whole jeep "inspected" and now it's going to cost me a fortune because as I said, I'm and 18 year old with no experience in vehicle repairs........

|Jerry Bransford||Three things... 1) The tie rod and drag link are mounted on ball joints so they are supposed to have rotational play. They just should not have any side-to-side play. 2) DW is very commonly caused by nothing more than an imperfectly balanced tire. Not many tire shops get tires balanced well enough for a TJ & the bigger the tires, the more important perfect tire balance becomes. 3) Once triggered by something like an out of balance tire, a loose track bar at its passenger-side mount can allow the DW to fully develop. Have someone turn the steering back & forth (tires on the ground) while you watch the track bar's passenger-side mount for unwanted side-to-side movement... there should be zero. Check the tie rod & drag link for side-to-side slop too once you've checked the track bar.|

My experience with the dreaded DW is not in a jeep as I am new to this world, but another Chrysler product a ram 3500 diesel. Of the 2 times I have had to have it addressed professionally, it was first the ball joints. Even thought they were tight, they had flat spots in then that allowed the play under motion. The second time was the steering stabilizer. The piston inside blew and so it did nothing.
Check the stabilizer especially if the DW started over night kind of thing.

|Water Dog||The ball joints on the drag link, as well as the rest of the suspension components are supposed to rotate (that is why they use ball joints). The video was good, but also grab on to each component while someone is turning the steering wheel. Sometimes you can feel what you can't pick up visually.|

I just recently began experiencing the blessing of a gift that we call the death wobble........but I'm only an 18 year old kid without much experience when it comes to vehicle repair. I was reading up on the wobble and I took a look front end to check and see if things were loose and if there was any play in the suspension system. I noticed that (what I think is) the drag link (which is connected to the pittman arm) has the ability to rotate, quite a bit actually. Everything else looked like it was in pretty good shape and I made sure everything was tightened down. Can someone please help me out? Do you think that the drag link being able to rotate is causing this?
And yes I am positive that this is the death wobble. This is no small vibration, the wheels look like they are gunna fly right off when it happens.
