Fa310tx FYI...
If you want to get away from Branson, there is a place called SMORR (Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch).
It's in Seymour, MO (an hour or two away).
It's $25/person (cash), for a day of off-roading.
They have maps, rated trails, etc...
It's a really great place.
Jeep does their annual thingy, there.

Nice, looks like we should have headed there too.

Gary04Z06 JJ,
Thanks for the great directions. We drove by Roark Creek on the way to something, was going to head back to it but didn't make it. We did get to hit the old Animal safari one, that was perfect. Some nice trails and a few rocks (creek) to go through. Was going to call you to met up to hit some of the other ones, but our son got sick so we cut the trip short and headed home.
Thanks again!!
Gary

tae73 Are there any trails around Shell Knob?

Gary04Z06 Thanks JJ. Not 100% sure of or plan, playing mostly by ear. I have a stock 2013 JKU Rubicon, so its fairly capable. If we hit some of the places you mentioned, I'll give you a call. We'll probably head down Wed. afternoon until Sat. Thanks for the info!!

Animal Safari used to be a drive-through zoo (like Exotic Animal Paradise).
It's been closed for years (decades?)
When you get into Branson, take 76 west to 376 (5 miles?), take 376 south to Kirkland Dr (1 mile?), there will be a 90 degree left on Kirkland, and then a dirt trail to the left (service road?).
That's the way I usually enter, but I also live on the west end of town.
Take that trail down the hill and turn right at the T.
You can go left, but it will eventually get to no trespassing signs (you can wheel around, for a while, though).
Just follow the trails and creek beds (I've never seen water in them).
I wouldn't recommend taking the very first left into the creek bed, as there is a tree growing in the middle of the creek bed and you'll have to back out of it.
If you just go straight through, you'll end back up on a paved road that connects to Animal Safari Rd.
Turn left onto it and then left onto 165 and you'll go back to 76.
If you turn right onto Animal Safari Rd, you'll find a couple other trails on the right.
I haven't been on them.
You can tool around, in there, for a while.
It's not particularly challenging, but that's about all there is in Branson.
One of the trails will take you to a lake that I didn't even know existed, until a couple of months ago.

Take 76 east to MM (12 miles?) and then MM south all the way to Bull Shoals Lake.
If you like to mud, then there will be plenty to do (after a rain, of course).
There are a couple decent hill climbs and very nice scenery (all lake-front).
You could camp out there, if you wanted.

You didn't ask about Roark Creek, but for posterity...
Take 76 west to Shepherd Of The Hills Expressway (376 is south-bound and Shepherd Of The Hills Expressway is north-bound), take Shepherd Of The Hills Expressway to Roark Valley Dr, take Roark Valley Dr west to Expressway Ln (immediate right), cross the big bridge and pass the charcoal factory, just before a little bridge that crosses the creek you can enter the creek on the right.
You can run around there all the way to Stockstill Park.
Keep in mind that, if the water is high, it could get over your door bottoms (it's usually low, though).
I have 36" tires and a 6" lift and it's been to my side-steps.
I've had water on the floor and stuff, from splashing.
I think it's a fun trip.

You did mention "easy", and none of this is particularly difficult.
You might be cautious on the Animal Safari creek bed, as is it rocky (not big, but I don't know your clearance - I don't really think about it in mine).
I would say that a stock Wrangler would be fine, just pay attention.
I will also say that I've gotten two vehicles (Acura MDX and my Wrangler) stuck in the mud at Bull Shoals.
There may not be anywhere to winch and it's not really populated.
I've seen a lot of little side trails and stuff, but I've not just gone exploring.

My cell number is (417) 527-2042.
Hit me up when you're down, if you want to run around with someone.
I work Monday - Thursday until 6:00 PM, so most times other than those are open.
I just trashed my front gearing, so I'm just in 2WD.
I should be fine to do most of it, though.
I'm sure you would be able to do anything I could, if you were following.
JJ

Edit...
Oh, and Mark Twain National Forest is everywhere.
I'm not sure what the trails are like, though.

Thanks, looks like some good options. Where is the animal safari? Is that an animal park you drive through or something?
Where in Forsyth?

Gary04Z06 Hey! We'll be heading towards Branson for a quick vacation. Any easy trails around there, state parks, logging roads or the like? Just something to get out and enjoy with the family (11 month old will be with us). Just want to get out and hit some trails and enjoy the scenery and have some fun in the Jeep.

Mr Mac Welcome, JJ! We need to get down to Branson some day!

What's Up From Branson

Just wanted to say Hi and that I'm in Branson.
If anyone wants to run around, some, I'm game.
I just picked up a Wrangler.
I know a couple off-road areas (Animal Safari and MM over by Forsyth), but I'm sure anyone has more experience than me.
JJ
