Tweak I can think of a few times where I have been stuck in mud to the bottom of my doors and havnt had any overheating issues.

Seeuoffroad I have every Rock Hard Skid made with auto. Wheeled in the heat in Moab several times no issues. Headed to Moab this Tuesday.

The skid recall for 2010 was allegedly because the full auto trans skid plate was said to catch debris which could heat up and catch fire. That's the reason they went to a skid "bar". The trans issue that you mentioned is a separate issue not due to the skid plate. The overheating auto trans. was due to not having a trans. cooler which could cause as you explained.

jmb6420 Better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

I get under my jeep after every trip and touch up any gouges with some black spray paint. Easy to do and keeps the rust away. It also lets you look around underneath for any problems that might have popped up.

I also have a manual. It will not overheat. If you think you need additional skid plates then do it. I never had a problem.

connochr Well I've heard, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that the reason the factory switched from the skid plates to the skid bars on the JK's is because of the trans overheating issue. I guess the bar deosn't trap as much heat or allows some air to get to the trans for cooling. Also heard that the skid may cause debris such as twigs/leaves to get trapped between the trans/exhaust pipe which may cause fires. Now I'm sure there are a bunch of guys running skids (factory or aftermarket) on this forum that can confirm or deny these myths. Just what I've heard.

Overheating with skids?

I been thinking about pick up a rock hard skid fir the oilpan/trans/bugle but am concerned about trapping heat. Am i over thinking this? Lol
