Well, there's only so many places it could leak, and some are more common than others!

n00g7 I have a drip (new) from the bell housing that appeared after I minorly crushed my oil pan. Waiting to see if it stops b4 next oil change prior to doing anything (might just be a little full and leak from somewhere as I need to lower oil capacity until I bang out the pan). Oil pan itself is dry. Does that eliminate any of the above, out of curiosity? I'm really thinking it tweaked the pan and its seal, but it seems odd to me that it would leak back to the bellhousing only.

Neil F. You can add UV dye to the system. Just about any shop can do it or you can buy a kit. When you hit it with the black light it is very clear where it is coming from.

jherrington the jeep leaks from these places:

1. Rear main seal

2. Valve cover gasket

3. Oil pan gasket

4. Head gasket

5. Oil pressure sensor shindig.

6. timing case cover.

Now.

reach behind your valve cover and see if its oily. yes? change tighten valve cover bolts. check a week later. Still oily? change valve cover gasket.

Next,

Is the bell housing on your transmission oily? does it look like its leaking from where the oil pan and the tranny meet? Tighten up the oil pan bolts in that area. only a little though, you can strip them.

Wait a week. oil gone? if not, change oil pan gasket and RMS.

There are a few write ups on the RMS seal changes. If you or anyone has any questions about it, ask me.

Nich In had the same leak and it turned out to be the valve cover on the drivers side by the firewall. I didn't wipe my clean to check and all that I just looked and it was pretty oily n wet. There is a great write on hear on how to change. Pretty simple just be careful with the old plastic hoses like the crank breather tube that goes into intake. Mine crumbled when I touched it. Hope for u it's valve cover n not rear main. Cheaper easier fix mines been good for a couple months now. Good luck bro

If it's not that, could also be the pan where it meets the block and RMS is the other.
After you clean it off you could put some baby powder in the area and wait a bit then look for the dark spot on the baby powder and you'll know exactly where the leak is.
