KurtVW Mine have bought me out of a tow a couple times too... But it doesn't mean a bonafide locker isn't still on my list!

They are fine, for what they are. They will unjam you in a jam... But how many times? thats what I worry about.

JeepCourtney3700 Don't hate on the YJ. It's still by far one of my favorite jeeps out there and as long as what's underneath (upgraded from stock) the YJ is capable enough, it can be a monster.

Then again, the same could be said about just about any Wrangler:

Anyway, it sounds like you had fun in your JK. Thanks for sharing!

Brake Locking Differentials Work Pretty Good

Today I had my brand new stock '13 JKUS stuck pretty good on a 2 track trail. I went a couple hundred yards down a pretty decent grade. There was a little rain water running down the 2 ruts. The soil was clay. Everything was wet.

When I got to the bottom the trail dead ended, but there was just enough room to makes a 9 or 12 point turn around between the trees. The trail was over grown, with Pine and Alder branches hanging down about windshield level. There was about 5 water bars on this section.

On the way up I got stuck in front of the rise for each water bar, then after losing momentum I couldnt get going again until stuffing the ruts with pine bows, ferns, and Alder branches. Thank goodness I remembered to bring my loppers with me to cut all of this as it took a lot of vegetation to get back up the hill.

Anyhow the good thing was that when I was stuck my wife and I could clearly see all 4 tires were giving it hell simultaneously. Then when moving, all were churning and contributing. It would have made a good video on BLD operation.

With the vegetation the JKUS was able to get going each time and eventually got back up the hill. Never would have made it up unassisted with conventional open diffs like my old YJ. I don't know if lockers could have done any better under the circumstances.
