Pittsburghwrangler I had this problem myself about a month ago I wanted to check my spare before taking a bit of a trip, lugs came right off but then it was stuck on the bolts. I gave it a shot of blaster and gave it some pretty good taps with a hammer and the rust poured off. Your's might be more stuck than mine though

Formulator Thank for the suggestions. Of course I removed the lug nuts. The spare is on an aftermarket aluminum wheel and I think the bolt holes are just the right ( or wrong ) size to barely fit on those lug bolt posts. Add that with who knows how many years of rust and you get a rust welded on spare tire. I have them soaking in PB Blaster right now.

Weld a nut to it and take it off with a impact.

amiller Use an Impact wrench. Let some air out of the tire. I will take stress off of the lug nuts... If the tire is pressing hard against the rubber bumpers on the tailgate (IIRC the YJ has those too)

Spare tire stuck on the carrier.

I'm trying to get my spare tire off the carrier but it will not budge. I used a piece of a 2X4 and a 3 pound sledge with no movement at all. Anybody got any suggestions?
