greenknight If she's okay with GM a Cobalt with some miles on it runs about 5000 grand
a nice SS roughly 7 grand
my 2 cents

A_Kuminski My girlfriend had an 08 scion tc she sold for 8k. It was a great reliable car, low maintenance, and the Toyota engine would've lasted a lifetime!!

GoldenSahara00 honda/toyota

kshaws21 Not on your list, but the way to go is VW Jetta Tdi. 40-50mpg, very little if any maintenance issues and the 2000-2004 models fall well under the listed budget.

Los57 On your list I'd vote for the Hondas. I've had a Civic and it was a great little car. I'd stay away from the Camry based on personal history with my exes vehicle and problems she's had. What about Hyundai? They make reliable vehicles and resale on used seem to be reasonable, or at least inline with other imports.

BlueRidgeYJ Stick with Toyota, but not the 3.0 v6. Stay away from 98-00 Camrys, Siennas, and Avalons (and the lexus v6) due to a poor design of a good engine. The alternative is running full synthetic oil and replacing valve stem seals at ~120k, or every other timing belt (for both engines in those models). But I think you just learned that. The plus side is engine swaps are pretty cheap in em, especially with rebuilds, like a Jarco or Jasper engine. If you can fix a Jeep, you can engine-swap a yota.

Burus are a bit overrated unless you fork out big $$$, and maintanence can get costly.

Tanks The only comment I would make would be that everyone I've known who has had subaru's (and I know a lot of them for some reason) has loved their car a lot and was able to do well in snow but said they are only 100,000mi cars. As soon as you hit the 6th digit they start just nickel and dime-ing the heck outta yah. I had a VW jetta in the snow and it got around great but it was a stick shift which helped. Maybe just breeze through some VW's?

Happy hunting!

jred321 I say an Accord. If she managed to blow up a Toyota engine she needs to stick to either a Honda or Toyota. Accords are abundant, have plenty of space, and get good mileage. Slap some snow tires on it and you won't have any issues there either.

Wouldn't princesses have a higher budget

Judging by your location snow is probably a pretty common occurrence and subarus do well in the snow but i honestly didn't see that much difference than the fwd cars i have driven.

I knwo a few people who have altimas and never heard a complaint. Good gas mileage and decent amount of room. You could also increae the budget a little and get a brand new honda fit or yaris which would have the warranty.

CT93YJ My parents have a madza 3 and its not that good in the snow but a great little car with great gas mileage. They have had it since 2010 with no problems. We live in northwest ct so we see a decent amount of snow. Plus they are pretty fast lol and they handle great.

Girlfriend needs a vehicle under 8k - any ideas?

Alright everyone...girlfriend is in search of a car at the moment since she blew up the motor in her 2000 camry a couple weeks ago.

She can spend up to about 8k on a vehicle so i'm just lookin for some ideas which i havent thought of.

Shes in college (senior) so gas mileage is in the top three priorities...also needs to be front or all wheel drive for the snow...maintenance and reliability would also be key.

So far, here are a few i've thought of to look at...

Ford Fusion
Nissan Maxima
Nissan Altima
Honda Civic
Honda Accord
Acura TL (kinda iffy with this one due to maintenance)
Mazda 3
Toyota Camry
Toyota Corolla
Mitsubishi Galant (again, not sure about maintenance)

Any other ideas are much appreciated! Also, any input on the above would be great as well

thanks, everyone!
