I like the stripped down and lower price point (prices have gotten out of hand by the time you add any options) suggestions, but I WANT A TRUCK!
I want a long wheelbase CJ8/JK8 type truck from the factory with a bed that was designed to be a bed, not a reworked passenger compartment with a welded-in bulkhead. It doesn't have to be a huge bed, just functional. Oh... And a bit more towing capacity (5000# like the Liberty) would be cool too.
A "real" base model 2-door would be cool too, at the right price point.

1. Non-foldable windshield, more rake, more curve (all for MPG improvement).
2. Manual free-wheeling hubs!
3. Optional white hard top.

I lament all the people using JKs for daily driving as they keep pushing Chrysler to wussify the Wrangler. Why not get a Cherokee or some such? I actually prefer the older interior style of my 2010 than the new car-like interiors. And now the dash speakers face upwards on the new JKs! Think of all the crap that will accumulate in them.
Anyway, as long as the Jeep has a removable top and doors I will survive.

I be honest, I dont need water proof - its not a submarine. How often are you fully submerged? I want water resistant. No worrying about clocksprings, carpets or seats. I feel a marine grade radio/speaker/backup camera would be fine.
Edit - I also want the diesel, a better manual transmission, real bumpers stock (even if its just the Rubi X bumpers) and keep the doors removable and offer half doors with the premium top.

1...A design change to eliminate some of the water leaking issues(i know it a jeep but the older ones were a lot more water proof)
2...more comfortable back seat(angle and design)4 door
3...Factory mods reasonably priced with a warranty.
I bleed jeep and don't want to be nervous about buying a new one for 40 grand that has a 50 50 chance of leaking and we as jeepers mod the shit out of them..its what we do

I checked 2 boxes when I ordered, 3.73's and 5 speed auto.
But to stay on topic of this thread I just hope diesel is a viable option, and not some idiotic 5k add on. And solid axles remain with the low range transfer case. Oh yea the doors and top need to be removable.

|Jman197||Doing research trying to figure out all the "redesign rumors". Is the body redesign (which I believe will be the end of the Jeep we all love) on the 2016 or 2017 model?? I am trying to figure out if I am going to order a 2015 rubicon or possibly see if they put a diesel in the current JK for the 2016 with no body changes.|

I think the weatherproof interior is a write-off... Vehicles now have to have air bags and you can tell just from reading this forum that a lot of the Jeep hardcore want bluetooth, 6 speaker stereo's with subwoofers, and backup cameras with in-dash screens.
I think its going to keep getting worse with the gadgets, and its too expensive to make it waterproof.

Hope no-one is upset by this post. This is just my humble opinion and I'm not a traditionalist.
Had a TJ for 8 years. Put 160,000 miles on it. Loved it. Go anywhere and it didn't matter to me if it got scratched, dirty or I hit a curb. When I needed a pick-up I traded the Wrangler for a Dodge Ram 2500. I miss the Jeep. I'm undecided about getting a JK or waiting for the next version. But that is a few years away plus I don't want to get the first year of a redesign.
The Ram is a good truck. It has solid axles and a diesel engine. However, it is big and heavy and gets pretty poor mpgs (on 35s). Turbo and transmission lag is horrible. But the torque is fantastic. I have sometimes thought that shortening the bed, chopping off the roof and putting a roll cage on it might make it almost the ideal vehicle for some on this forum. Maybe someone will try this.
I like some of the ideas presented but I think the Wrangler will continue on it's trajectory of being made more appealing to the mass market. I think it will still be off road capable.
Personally, I would have no problem with an independent suspension if it was still functional off road and inexpensive. Modernizing the exterior, perhaps as part of making the Wrangler more aerodynamic, would be fine too. I don't want a military looking truck and everything has to change at some point. I'm not a big fan of diesel but if there was no lag I might be interested. Some of the reports I see on twin turbos sound great.
My wish list would be:
- slightly longer 2 door version a la LJ for more space.
- more HP and more torque. And better MPGs....
- better built all round. My old TJ had a lot of small and not so small isssues and I hear the same thing about JKs. There's no excuse for poor build quality or poor engineering. That's not a Jeep thing.
- better manual transmission.
- weatherproof interior.
- lockable trunk space.
And, er, that's it. I'm looking forward to what Chrysler Fiat comes up with.

Our jeep is a DDer and not really for offroading, except beaches and simple trails.
- Better headlights
- Locking hood
- Nicer dash display with more modern lcd screen
- Deeper 2nd row seat
- auto up windows
- more usb ports. Seems like phone is plugged in, but still would be nice to also plug in a mem stick.
- Easier to close front door with hard top
- Standard mopar fuel lid with interior pull release
- slightly more raked front windshield
- 2nd row air bags
Now the crazy one, having researched lift kits. Maybe, do not weld the control arm mounts to the frame? Instead some bolt on mount such that aftermarkets could offer different bolt on mounts so that one could lift their jeep even 1" and get the castor fixed. Or maybe just some way to adjust castor to restore steering after a lift?

While I've only owned my JK for about 12 days, and it is my first one, there are a few things I would like to see them add, most of which have already been mentioned:
-- Better headlights

Only two options I checked off was A/C and 3.73's. I don't use the A/C much (mostly top off from April-Nov), but I'm glad I ordered it.

If anything....LESS! It's a Wrangler, make it simple and reliable as originally intended.
