Also agree that the nv4500 is the better choice.
Also if you wish for a auto ...look at the GM 4L60E GREAT trans.

|jpdocdave||i seem to think there was a gm nv4500, can't remember. it is the best manual trans around basically. the 3550 is the little sister, good trans, but betweeen the two do the 4500. you will never be sorry if you do.|

mainly a little of both. definitely no real hard wheeling. around here we just have a bunch of atv trails and such. no giant boulders or rocks. i have busy a schedule so the jeep would see a lot of road time in between trail runs. I'm guessing the NV4500 would need an adapter to mate up to the 5.3L?
What about the NV3550? Would it be strong enough? I hear it works well with GM small blocks.

V8 swap - Which transmission?
I'm gonna go with an '03 5.3L vortec engine for my v8 swap into my 1995 YJ. I want to use it with a manual transmission. Axles will either be D44's front and back or D44 front/ 8.8 rear depending on what I can find. Any idea which transmission may be best suited for this application? I would rather stick with a 5 speed so that I have overdrive on the highway (it's on the road a lot). I can get an adapter from advance adapters if need be.
