I don't think I chose my words carefully. He said I should definitely not use 15" wheels with a '13 JK (something to do with the brake calipers). He knows his stuff and his jacked up JK is the most bad ass I've seen in person. That shop always price matches anything I find on the web, has done two lifts on TJs for me in the past, and they're in charge of the local Jeep Club, I trust them 100%. I'm sure there are a few newer JKs getting away with 15" wheels but he said its not recommended. But I appreciate the feedback. I'll post pictures in here when it's done!

Well either the guy you talked to does not know what he is talking about or they are trying to take extra money from you because they believe you are not educated on JKs ( no insult towards you intended).

16" 17" 18" will all fit a JK and If someone tells you other wise they do not know what they are talking about! Buy what you like and is within your budget!

Ps and look for another shop

JeepHerz You can also search Craigs list for a used spare. That's what I did. They're in there plenty. Just paid $50 for a used MTR with over 60% of the tread left. More than I'd ever need as a spare.

JeepGuy425 Thanks guys for all the tips. I stopped by Jeeper's Den in Orlando this morning, and they agreed that the JK's require 17" wheels, and like the above post, the spare is the deal breaker for me. Going with the Rusty's 3.25 basic lift kit + 5 XD Spy black 17x9 wheels, and the 35" mt's. Its about 4200 total with labor, mount/bal, valve stem sensors, lug nut kit, and spare tire relocation bracket. Looks like another month of saving, but it will be worth it. Thanks again to everyone that offered advice!

traitor08 I'm on rock krawler 2.5" lift, fox shocks, and 35' on 17's. If I didn't buy the spare I would be close to your budget. Talk to jason@krawloff-road.

JKUdad Im on 35 12.50 15" with a 2.5 terra BB Ride is ok and cant wait for my long arm but it does make a hell of a difference.. when I go to 37" or 40" ill have to go with 17" rims for the beads.. but in do time in do time.. I did the BB because im not going to do a mid arm and this will get me by until I pull the long arm trigger.. I also beefed up my D 30 with artech truss and gusset kit.. next is a locker and 30 spline shafts

BTW mines a 2012 JKU with the 15" MB chaos rims and no caliper touching at all...

mckey73 Good info for you, I just ordered a set of 5 15" MB level 8 trackers with 35X12.5X15 BFG A/T's for $1300 with thier 4th of July sale. I realize this isn't ideal for everyone, but it's a smokin' deal. They are offering crazy stuff for cheap this week.

I'm gonna trim my fenders until I get the $$ for my lift, and I'm going with the Metalcloak lift - and their front bumper.

Darkfire If your not stuck on BFG, the dura Trac's are a great choice, the last set I priced at discount tire for a friend was 250 each M&B for 315/75/16's and you can get a good 16 rim for 100-? What ever you want to spend. So you might make it out the door around 2000 if you shop it well.

As for a lift, I highly recommend a Metal Cloak 2.5 or 3", the dual rate kit is 1100. With everything you need and fully upgradeable later. They have lots of options http://www.metalcloak.com/?Click=2552

Lithium Lotus Go with 16" wheels. Steel or aluminum will fit with no problem. 15" will hit the brake calipers.

A Teraflex or Rock Krawler 2.5" will give you good results.

whiteyjfm Depending on what JK you bought, make sure that a 15" rim will work. I know on the 2012 and newer ones, Jeep put bigger brake calipers on and most 15" rims don't work. Pus if they do and you do a HD tie rod, you may run into problems.

dawhitesJKU yes they are! good luck with your decision. there's plenty of good looking 15's but the bfg mt tires will make it WAY better
06-28-2013 11:29 PM
JeepGuy425 There is a huge price diff between the bfg mud terrains for 15" wheels vs 17".....I might just have to go with the 15" instead because I can't do the install. Thanks for the feedback!
06-28-2013 11:11 PM
dawhitesJKU those bfg's mt 35x12.5/17 are about 350 each. mounting/balancing are about 25 per tire.
wheels 120+

if u can strike a deal for 2500 for wheels/tires, you'll have 1k on lift.

a 2.5 will not need much and is a great starter. check our vendors for deals. There's a lot of reputable brands that sell complete kits for less than 1k so pick your poison. seems like your budget can do it if u self install.

JeepGuy425 Prob 17x9 with 5x5 bolt pattern. Totally up in the air right now though.
06-28-2013 10:37 PM
dawhitesJKU what size wheels will u be running?

Recommended lift kit and suspension for 35" BFG Mud Terrains

I'm on a $3500 budget for my wheels, tires, and body+suspension lift kit.

Just drove home my first JK and wanted to see what others have done - what works, what doesnt. Will be putting 35" BFG Mud Terrains on there.

Dying to take this baby out in the sticks. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
