Rebuilding 1987 6cyl

I am planning on rebuilding my engine because it has a power loss and oil leaks everywhere. Going to do front and rear axles and trans and transfer case as well but need help on engine. Is there anything I can do with the stock engine to make it have more horsepower that won't cost an arm and leg? Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.
